I have seen a few of these over the years, I don't think any of the ones I seen had a TM. I don't have any history on them. I think I seen one is a reference book, maybe Johnson's, Mine are packed away and hard to get to. The ones I seen had poor quality blades, so never bought one. I always wanted one just because they looked neat.

That's the one I have seen before. You a have a nice one, I could never find one as nice as the one you have. can you tell what kind of runners are in the scabbard. I could some times tell when it was issued by the guts of the scabbard. It only works if the scabbard is original to the blade. Whats the blade length of yours?

Here's the one I posted in your thread on another forum. I've seen several slight variations of these. I thought yours had a longer blade based on the blade profile and fuller length, but it sounds like it's only slightly longer by about 1cm. Mine is 32cm overall with a blade just under 21cm. It has a slot but non-functioning press stud. The grips are wood as are the scabbard runners, and the scabbard has a brass frog stud.

Klinge, yours looks like the same maker but made slightly later(?). These are pretty interesting when you see all the variations.

Here's one that was on ebay recently. I didn't bid on it but I saved the pictures for reference. It looks like a brass frog stud on the scabbard and a non-functioning button like mine, but the hilt is plated. One of the grips has damage that makes me think they're made out of horn.

Hi Andy - Do plastic grips get damage like that? I have one from the same time period with similar damage, can you tell what material this one is made from? I'm not that familiar with early plastics, my thought was horn with bug damage.

Many German period pipes have pieces made from buffalo horn from east Africa.

It looks very similar in color.

Some could be done on early celuloid plastic, or possible they using a horn material, anyway the horn should be visible as non homogenic and multi color to compare to plastic, same as fireproof could be examined probably. b.r.Andy
