Well guys, today was like Christmas in Canada. All of my Thursday purchases at the MAX were sent to Canada by courier via Paul Hogle (thank you, Paul) and they were then redirected to me. They arrived today and I would like to show you one of them.

You can find this item on page 68 of Wayne Techet's excellent reference book on etched bayonets.

And I would like to acknowledge and thank Ron Weinand for letting me mortgage my house to buy this from him Big Grin Big Grin

First and overview of the obverse, notice the stag grips.

Now for the good stuff. Note that there are no number markings on the plane, unlike the regular Pack C31 etch.

And, finally, notice the gold lettering of the personalization on the reverse.

I hope that you like this.

I think that bayo has been in several books. Beautiful piece for a Pack collector or any bayonet collector for that matter. A centerpiece for your collection. Congrats.

As I mentioned to you at the MAX this is is one of the rarest examples around. You had a GREAT MAX and should be well satisfied.

Thank you.

Wayne, you are right about my MAX acquisitions. Tomorrow, I will post one of the nicest and rarest etches that I picked up from you.

John,

Nice pieces you've been picking up lately. I think this piece was also in Ron & Gary Walker's book "Clamshells". Frankly I'm surprised you were able to pry it from him, well done.

Billy:

Yes, you are correct, this piece is in the Clamshell book, which was co written by Ron Weinand. And it only took a lot of $100 bills as a lubricant to pry this away. Big Grin Big Grin

For years, I tried to assemble a collection of all the different Pack ovals. It seemed to be impossible and I think John Z is as close to doing this as is possible, so this is why I have let him buy the piece.
Now, he only needs the SS Panzer named piece I have left to complete his set. He can buy it from me any time to finish the group.
Something that I could never accomplish.

Ron:

I appreciate you letting me get both the neutral and the large airplane Pack ovals. I only need the Panzer oval to complete the 6 versions that Wayne has listed in his book.

One day, when I can afford it, I will take you up on your offer.

Thanks,

John
