Here we have another brown vertical. Shown in reference books. Scarce hanger in my opinion.

That is a early original DRGM SA Vertical. A really nice piece. Congrats wotan. They are really tough to find in any condition. -wagner-

I had been looking for one of those for years and in the space of three weeks ...... Big Grin

One is identical to Wotan's with DRGM stamped on the inside of the leather. The second had a white painted back with DRGM stamped in ink with a rubber stamp.

Dave, I also have looked for one of these for years. Mine came by quite inexpensive. Another one was offered to me recently but I let it pass because of the exorbitant (imo) price and because I already have one.
Very nice daggers with appreciable accouterments you have!

These are a neat design, but I don't think they held up well in actual use with these heavy daggers. I've only seen early ones, no later RZM ones, no bigger Assman buckles etc.

I agree, not a very durable design. THe weak point is just as John shows. If you look closely, Wotan's has been repaired.

Dave, not repaired just the upper surface "broken" two times during wear but still sound. Common to several kind of hangers. It obviously led to the minute change in construction to the variant you and vintagetimenow are showing.
Nevertheless these hangers are a fragile construction at all.

What a great design. Nice hanger Wotan!

Nice hanger......do any of you remove the hangers and keep them seperate? I sometimes do this with the delicate ones. That way they are less likely to be damaged anymore and I can give them some TLC. Also because most of my collection is stored flat in drawers ( lack of secure space) I am concerned about causing more damage.

Here's a different variation I just bought on this design. The hangers above could be worn in a vertical configuration by snaping the leather loop around the grip, OR putting the leather loop through the hanger ring to carry at a 45 degree angle.

This one has a cut out for the leather loop to go around the upper scabbard fitting through the larger ring and the the cut out allows the small ring to poke through. There is no 45 degree angle option

reverse shows a new, stronger rivet design, perhaps aluminum??.

The main leather back is thicker, perhaps an attempt to strengthen the design?

It also has the little leather 'ears' to keep the clip from falling forward.

John,

I have one of those as well. Firmly attached to a Gembruch dagger. I have never removed it as the big carrying ring on the scabbard had to be removed to get the strap on. See below.

I am not certain that this type - the ones with the lower strap can be converted from vertical wear to angled wear. The geometry does not seem right. Could you please try it out out with a dagger?

No way to hang at angle, as the rivet is right at the level of the hanger ring..

John,

Thanks. That is as I thought. They used the same basic design, but set the strap lower and left off the little ring at the top.

On mine, pictured above, they removed the big ring the reset it after the vertical was attached.

I have another black one - a convertible type that was on an NSKK dagger. I wonder if the SA/NSKK used that pattern and the SS used the non-convertible pattern ?

Dave, my non-convertible example is brown, with brown buttons, so I assumed it was for an SA dagger.

It's been a while for discussion of this design. There are two version shown above: The one that converts from Vertical to 45 degrees and the the Vertical only.

I'll bring a couple of the convertible ones to MAX if anyone want to see them.

See you there,
Dave
