Hi just recently found out the the GERMAN GRAVITY KNIFE is illegal in CANADA do ANY OF OUR Canadian MEMBERS have more info on this. Sort of took me by surprise when I bought two more for the collection. When I investigate I find that persons who can purchase restricted firearms can own these ??

Paul:

My understanding is that it is legal to own, but not to carry these gravity knives (or flick knives).

But, it is illegal to bring them into the country.. if they are of one piece, then you have a problem or risk not telling the truth.

If they disassemble, you can bring or ship the pieces separately and should have no issues at the border or with the psot office/customs.

I looked at the statutes online and it does not give a clear answer like your thoughts, but then they never want you to know. I just bought two more and it was brought to my attention by PETER at the GUILD about this as he does not sell them at all any more.

It really is absurd how the minority criminals impact on the law and how this adversely affect the law abiding collector. Democracy? I think not!

Some idiot (& non English) politician is planning to put a motion before parliament to ban the sale of TR memorabilia in Great Britain. Makes you wonder where the infringement of liberty will end.

Gravity knives, automatic knives, push daggers and folding knives that can be flicked open are on the prohibited weapons list. These are therefore illegal to own in Canada. Getting caught with one of these carries a prison sentence of up to 5 years according to the criminal code of Canada.

When I was a boy scout we used to carry a sheath knife on our belt, much like a HJ knife and it was considered to be a part of the uniform. Now if you do that you are a criminal. It`s pathetic. Create laws and turn a good citizen in to a bad one. Knives have so many uses. We will all be forced to use plastic cutlery next!

If guns and knives are outlawed, only outlaws would have guns and knives.

Might check to see if there in a variance on collectables before a certain year, or if falls under war relics. Just a thought, kind of like you can buy a firearm made before a certain year with involving the feds.

THAT is what I understand not because it is a war relic but certain gun collectors have a standing to possess restricted weapons through the firearms acquisition act.

Paul,

That would be a real shame if you had t sell them to me.lol. Only kidding, I hope you get to keep them. I had no idea the laws for our northern neighbors was so strict. Do these old out dated laws have anything to do with the mother country?

You are correct, it is possible to get permits for restricted weapons, which includes handguns.
However it is not possible to get a permit for prohibited weapons, which includes fully automatic weapons, handguns under a certain barrel length and the knives in question.
Only those who had permits for such weapons when the law was passed were grandfathered to keep them. When they die, the weapons can only be passed on to other grandfathered permit holders. Failing that, they must be turned in to be destroyed by the police.
These laws have nothing to do with the Mother country, but are a direct result of a Liberal Government with years in power.
