Mikee, I don't often post on here but I really liked this dagger and the hangers, I'm sure they are both very scarce, I thought perhaps that if a knot was posted we could all look out for an example for Zet, I for one would like to see him complete this ensamble. Sure I can see the resemblance to Willi's big "W",both are super pieces with great geometric designs.
This pattern called triplet (Hrvatski Troplet) it is decorative theme of croatian daggers except treasury guards with tobbaco leaves. This triplet going back to ancient Croat tombs. This design is in the form of 3 ropes with no begining and no ends which is the sign of unity. The other design id threfoil in the form of 3 leaves. This design goes back to the Crown of king Zvonimir .He was king of Croatia in 1906.I should say that Croatian daggers are very interesting because of many symbols connect to their history.I will post pics of navy hanger tommorow.Regards Ted
This is the only photo I seem to have now. I will be taking photos Monday and willpost a close up.
Per Berger, the portepee is Generals, white leather strap 38 to 40 cm long, gold faced with wove triplet design. Officers, same as Generals but in silver.
Hi Mikee Im interested in this knot thanks for help.I have to say without help Jim I couldnt dream about my collection.Tommorow i will post naval with hanger .This pattern on scabbard is threfoil and on the hanger is triplet. It is all from Berger book.I found something interesting on the net ,this triplet looks the same on the SS chained dagger. The upper clip is the same pattern like triplet in Croatian tradition.I will try to find some info about this pattern.Regards Ted
Here is the portepee. this is a white leather strap with material sewn on both sides. Some of the stiching has come loose on this strap, but it is really a nice example overall.
