Welcome to the forum Striwa78. Thanks for posting your two Honour Rings. I am far from expert but the inside of the band of one of them is a mess - scratched and pockmarked. I don't like the look of that. It should be polished smooth and shiny, also through being worn. Hopefully the real HR experts will show up soon.

I am skeptical of post like this ( I could be wrong). New member asking advise and then crickets. I know people have other lives, but if you ask, you should at least follow up. The staging pics of those rings looks familiar.

- I gotta say your pretty brave buying first then asking questions here. There is also Antonios new book that would help.. - IF your going to continue collecting these HRs or you want to resell You must find out authenticity. I had one years ago for a short while and had to give it back.. I never gave them the study like some of these other guys because I figured Don B. knew it all. But we all live and learn. They are not die struck like 99% of out private purchase rings we collect.. Give it some time and you'll get some answers here.. Thanks , G.

Pictures posted are not enough IMO.

If a ring doesn't have obvious mistakes or red flags, there is simply no way to authenticate it just from some pictures, especially if they are so "digital", of low quality as those you posted and no details of the runic panels can be seen.
We can see some nice pictures of the engraving, but nothing can be said just from the engraving.
Fakes nowdays have reached another lever, and far from what we still think they are.

If you want to be sure of your rings, you have to study them, to check the details, to compare them with other period rings, possibly produced during the same year, to know materials, to know how they react to the time, the cracks... And you have to look at them with a good magnifier (or a microscope). Then you will be 100% sure and satisfied to know they are original.

The first pic is from the Auction site and the other are ones I took. Sorry, I don't get replies that there are responses. But I am real.

I bought first because I knew at least 1 was original.

And I posted these pics on the 5th today is the 8th, I don't consider that crickets.

According to the website (see Striwa78's post above). Both of these rings were sold as reproductions, for $1,100.

'After close examination, we believe these rings are of post-WWII manufacturer, but we encourage interested parties to examine the rings in person and form their own opinion'.

I wonder what he saw that we don't see? When I see the ad, I don't think that would make me spend 1100.00.

The details of the engraving on the one and the fact that the auction house didn't even know what dates were written on the inside or any of the details. I didn't trust them to determine they were reproductions based on their description and took a gamble. I know Don has said in his professional opinion the Kumbier is original.

Hello if Don has said that the Kumbier is original than he will provide a COA I know many discount Don even on this forum and I understand fully the reasons why. Having said this with those "big name dealers" that I spoke with at the SOS none will accept a ring without Don having examined it first. His name and reputation still carry weight as does Kelly Hicks with SS helmets. As for the word crickets" being used on this forum it is really hilarious to the extreme.... This forum has been a cricket sanctuary for the past 14 years LOL I hope the ring turns out to be good it would be an absolute steal...........and from the pics it has promise cheers and best, Ryan

I don't know whats what on these. A confusing topic from the start for me anyway....

IF they are going with Don to authenticate then I wouldn't trust any of them.. Antonio has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt they were not die struct/pressed. Thats just the dealer or seller not wanting to refund the money they already got in their hands. Paying Don to say its real is a smart $200 investment rather than refund a couple grand!

And as far as crickets?!?,, maybe some subject areas here yes,,but this area hasn't a cricket in the house!. We have one of the best Intenational memberships on the net and we know our shit!,, I'll put us up against any other out there!

I regret ever using the word "cricket" in one of my post here. As I said, we get spoiled by todays internet instant responses and when we have a couple days in between post, we get anxious.

It is just a word used to describe inactivity on forums and anything else. People use it when someone post and then goes quiet after the first post, like quiet and the only thing you hear are crickets. Means nothing more than that. I just thought since he posted about advice, he might have been watching and would want advice more quickly.
Like I said, we get spoiled in the computer age when get instant answers. We sometimes forget that there is more to life than just computers/forums.

Thanks for the explanation, Ron. There's a lot of that goes on one of the other ring fora. Guy posts a ring - more often than not, a horror - gets the feedback that it's a dud, and is never heard from again. Not even a 'thanks for your help'.

I've seen gold rings from the 17th century with cleaner inner band than this.
