In the 9th century there was a renowned sword smith in the Rhineland whose weapons were highly prized. His name, Ulfberht, was inlaid into his blades, and it’s an example of one of the first known logos. Ulfberht’s family produced swords for a couple of hundred years and more than 100 have been found by archaeologists.

There were also many fake versions of Ulfbehrt swords. They were poor quality and some even had his name misspelled. Sound familiar? smile Ninth century rip-offs!

If you're interested, the book is a history of the Vikings by Neil Price. It’s called ‘The Children Of Ash And Elm’. It’s really good.
