Hi folks,
I have decided that I want to run some of my collection among real experts here, in order to root out those that I suspect are fakes or copies. (The rings, not the experts! wink )
What do you make of this one? It is made of some cheap alloy... maybe even aluminium. No markings that I can see. I think it's another cheap biker ring.
Thanks,
Stephen

I do not believe this to be a period piece. Modern made decorative ring in my opinion.

Looks like it was made by the same guy that made the gold one you tried out on us a day or two ago ?

LoL laugh. I don‘t think so, Dave. I realise that it looks a bit gold-coloured in the photos I posted but that's just crap lighting. It's actually greyish silver. More like a zinc alloy, maybe even aluminium. Here's another photo.

I agree with you and Mike, thanks for confirming my suspicion. Another one bites the dust! I hope to try a few more on you soon.

People still love skull rings of all types and kinds though. Maybe these aren’t ww2 rings for soldiers etc, but they’re still nice rings and can be collected, bought, sold, traded for what they are. Mexican biker ring skulls are a great example of attractive pieces that people wanted then and still want today. Medical school rings, nurses rings, designer made rings, even the ones from the great frog of London are popular with celebrities and rockstars for years- none of which are cheap either: Great Frog of London Skull Rings

Stephen.., Don't fret.. These are usually glass and have been made for many years. Problem is,,they still make them the same..

Those that want to collect one for their 3rd reich era collection there are a couple things you can do:
First,,if it looks brand new it usually is!
2, Look for the European content marks,,,830,835,900. 925 is a non starter for me even though early on some were seen. On a iffy ring to start with you don't want 925.
3rd,band style! You really go to look / study the styles. Wether from old catalogs or from the internet.. Once you start actually looking/studying you start to see what is 20s-40s as to latter more current..

Yours is a possibility,,,don't ditch it. Hold on to it until another more convincing to you comes along!

Thanks for that, Gaspare. The ring is definitely not made of silver but it came from a trusted source. I will take your advice. It wasn't expensive anyway, as I recall.
Cheers,
Stephen

Mike,

I absolutely agree with you, skull rings will always be desirable no matter the period. Seems most of us just like skulls for some reason. My oldest ring is a skull ring "Memento Mori" perhaps. German Rococo period 1723-1759.

Sorry for the picture, in hand it has more of a tarnished silver look . Thank you.
