This topic is for all types of cigg cases. Many were bought in Jewelry stores.

ALL welcomed,,,Allied, Axis, store bought or mass produced for retail sales or award..

First 2 US cases I have from family..

1st is a brass case. Germany ws broke up and distributed out to the Allied nations. Called 'Zones', British zone, Soviet Zone, etc.
This one the U.S. Zone.... Stamped construction.Inside has a nice 'engine turning' to it..

2nd case is a Armored Division [tanks, destroyers, etc.] case. A simple decal on a AL case.

Members, please feel free to add yours or interesting examples you've seen from out there!

ok, next are 2 Soviet cases:

1st one,,it is heavily plated, well made. Has award for the 'Hero City of Kiev' on the upper left..

2nd one is Brass. Had a silver wash to it that I've heard came off very quickly.. Sometimes initials or the date was engraved on the lower right..
I've also heard this case was given out to formal Soviet soldiers that marched in the huge Victory parade in Moscow [cool one where the nazi standards were thrown down at the end]. Anyone have one in good condition with the wash still on it,,would love to see it.

ok, post them if you got them!

Yes it is cast aluminum, machined, swastica is hand engraved. It seems to be very time and labour consuming item.
It was one of nicest war time cigarette cases I ever had. I lost it by mistake. I sold one average cigarette case to somebody in US arround 2004. At the day of shipping I had lots of packages so somebody was helping me with packages. By mistake instead of average cigarette case in that package was packed this Totenkopf cigarette case. Buyer received it, in numerous emails promised to return it for exchange of right one and finally quit responding at all.

Here is another one in silver. Engraving says : "In memory from Jugla leather manufacture workers. 24.06.45."
This one I found myself with metal detector in almost forest. There were few soviet buttons left, few coins and this cigarette case. So that was jacket. Few meters away there were few empty shells from PPSh. Based on engraving it was some commie. Good person at that date would not receive such silver gifts from workers. Most likely that some commie was sentenced by forest brothers. Sure that is only speculation.

Gaz,

What part - the initials, or the whole thing?
Posted By: Gaspare Re: Cigarette Cases. - 04/20/2020 12:58 AM
Dave, the LAH emblem.. It has appeared on a china plate of a cruse ship or shipping company!

I briefly saw and read about it and when ever someone shows a cigg case or cup, lighter etc there goes someone saying its no good its from the cruise ship.......

There was a shipping company called the Hamburg Amerikanische Packetfahrt Actien Gesellschaft (HAPAG); AKA Hamburg-Amerika Linie; Hamburg-America Line, Hamburg-American Line (HAL). It carried thousands of immigrants to the USA in the late 19th century. I can?t find any evidence that this shipping company was ever referred to as LAH. Also, the HAPAG logo looked nothing like that of the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler.

Interesting discussion of this topic on another forum several years ago: https://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=138645

Cheers,

Stephen

Stephen thanks so much!

There still seems to be much confusion on this. On the other forum anything shown non standard SS LAH and without a RZM is from the shipping line grin

My piece is not engraved. Had it about 20 years now [I know not long]. But got it at a small bazaar in central Ukraine. Inside with short Russian engraving from one to another.. Who knows,,maybe he was on the shipping line wink laugh

Gaspare, I find it impossible to believe that the LAH-SS would have had the same logo as a shipping line. That is just ridiculous. The LAH was the elite of the elite: Hitlers personal bodyguard.

Stephen

Is that not an SS bed pan, Vern? cry
Surely the LAH did not hijack the HAL logo?
Posted By: Vern Re: Cigarette Cases. - 04/21/2020 01:27 PM
From the hallmarks on the bottom, it was listed as produced in 1907. I think that kind of predates the SS wink
Posted By: Dave Re: Cigarette Cases. - 04/21/2020 02:43 PM
The Nazis were hijakers.

SA = Sturmabteilung = WWI Assault Battalions of picked troops that would attack quiet sectors of trenches

SS = Shutzstaffeln = WWI Protections Squadrons that escorted Germain aircraft equipped with rockets that functioned as as balloon busters

Stephen,,I'm with you, pretty crazy... But as Verns photo [thanks!] shows , hence the problem!

So there will be those who will not /and never believe anything SS LAH unless it is a issued/approved piece.. All those bogus engraved silverware and dish sets appearing don't help..
- But I like it and glad I found it, so off it goes in to my little cigg case collection. I'm missing one more and when I find I'll post..

Dave your right. ,,and maybe they just liked the emblem and said 'its ours now'.. Here's a copied emblem! grin

Anyone else with a interesting case please feel free to add here.., Thanks , G.

That's the 45th Infantry Division patch. It was changed to a Thunderbird design.
Posted By: Vern Re: Cigarette Cases. - 04/21/2020 09:02 PM
The 45th Infantry Division was organized in 1924 using a patch with an American Indian symbol for good luck. The division patch was changed in 1939 to the thunderbird patch..

One of the more interesting connections is with the KRIT motor car company of Detroit and their use of not just the swastika (pre-ww1 company) but also the exact color scheme of the party badge!
