Mike,, don't like that 2nd one.. WW or WF in this pattern they are usually the same and this is different.

The first one [Big Head WW 1] looks pretty good at first glance. Mine and others are not marked though.. And, since this one is aged exactly the same as the other and it seems they are from same seller I'd leave be..
BigHeads come up kind of regular. They are a weird silver alloy.. You'll find one...

Thanks Gaspare- I appreciate it. Once again some eastern promises went unfulfilled lol.. will sell as repros.

From grave robbers ?

Just robbers. Fakes.

I only know WW big head pattern by brass nickeled.

Do original ones exist by silver ?...assuming the marking visible on outer band is a silver content.

Good Question
Posted By: Gaspare Re: WW skulls for opinion please - 01/07/2020 08:14 PM
a member had one [Odal?] that was exact but no West Wall on it!
Probably on here somewhere,,might have been in silver.

They are great rings. Period advertisements, in wear photo etc. They are good quality, nice thin comfortable band. Hard to find,,but they're out there!

People snap up repros like crazy. No one wants a real ring it seems unless it is same price as a repro. I have often said I think even amongst collectors it seems they will buy ANYTHING if it is cheap enough. Oh Canada if you are listening- THAT is the tragedy of the hobby of rings. And I resent tremendously anything untoward directed toward me. Oh Canada no Canada.

Burned on one end I eat the loss verify the piece and sell as repros for peanuts. I wish more hobbyists did this turn instead of passing s?t on to the next guy. And as for real- real is real. 250-300 for mint real pieces a ripoff? Please. Please tell me the hobby is better than a decent handful of thieves and losers. Lord I hope so. Otherwise again THAT is the death of your hobby.

Our hobbys days are limited... There are teenagers out there that don't know what the Holocaust is!! , Battles, Axis, equipment, etc.,,most young'uns don;t have a clue!

Well, we all take a hit once in a while. shocked.. Object is not to make a habit of it!

Fair prices?, to many variables. Some try to get as much as they can with wild prices etc. Some offer fair price and stay pat with it..
IF you have a ring and you know the price is fair,,and its not selling the choice is lower it IF you really have to move it,,OR,,just hold on to it!. Thats one of the niceties with rings,,,they are small and easy to squirrel away. wink

Gaspare
You are right on, LIMITED!! Not just rings, almost everything. German Army, Luftwaffe, Navy daggers are just plain cheap now a days, unless very special.
US fighting knifes the same. The past two years of SOS, some selling fairly cheap, but some holding out trying to recoup the investment.
Only a matter of time.
At the last SOS, 2019, I saw a young kid, probably 15, trying to buy a hand full of US medals and rank ID from a dealer. Was looking at his table and observing the youngin. Dealer was holding at $50, the kid only had
$35. Dealer said no. I pulled a $20, gave it to the dealer, said We NEED this kid. Thats where we are at. We are killing ourselfs.
Have a good one

Dealers run businesses for profit. They exist as the narrative force in this hobby. I have a job and do not like to get ripped off by paying fair prices for something that pretends like it is one thing but it is not- it is a fake. I have been trying to cull my collection of fakes and iffy pieces that I SELL AS SUCH priced AS SUCH. They go like hotcakes. But when I decide to part with an authentic piece for HALF A DEALERS PRICE I will not be called a criminal when those are pretty damn close to the prices I have actually paid. LAH dogtag? I paid 300. I am sure it will go for half. No big deal. When collectors attack their own? That is shameful and disgusting and does at least as much damage to the hobby as not invigorating another set of collectors. Here is how they will get their best start imho: no sales. Teach your sons or grandsons the history of each piece and IF AND ONLY IF they show an interest- give it all to them. Let them enjoy it. Kids buying are kids buying. I know a number of teens who are as shrewd as they come. MONEY is the problem. So if your kids do not show an interest? Sell it all and give them what they do show an interest in or at least a start on whatever they are in to.

On that note- for the time being at least; best to the gdc and legitimate hobbyists in general.

I agree with your comments, Mike. Personally, if I have a definite fake - and if I cannot get a refund (and most of the time, I have done) - I destroy the fake. I bite the bullet on what I paid but at least it is one less dud in circulation. Fighting the flood here, but it is my little contribution.
Cheers,
Stephen

, Bravo Ed !! hobby related,,thats the best $20 you [and most of us ] have spent! Bravo!

Prices.. items in our hobby are always, always rising and falling.. Something like a ID tag. You can't put a price on something like that. Worn around a soldiers, mans neck,,,and if a whole tag it went to the battleground with him until it was discovered. Personal items like tags and Soldbuchs, jewelry, for me are very special to collect.
Like comics, Barbies, stamps, art, etc. ,,unless your a professional dealer your likely not to make money on it when you go to sell it.

It's very difficult for me,, but I only now buy when I absolutely have to have it,,can afford it, and will a family member will want it or be able to get anything for it when I'm gone!
