,,Now every collector has seen at least one of these rings!

Both are fantasy. both are very old . I've traced the maker to a guy in Hollywood that actually had a die cut for them!! This was made in the late 50s, early 60s..

an old friend [since passed away] had actually bought the dies..

At first the rings were going to be 2 pieces. Both with the same band. The cartouche could have been replaced with either a Panzer type skull or,,SS runes..

The first generation rings had the cartouche in brass and had real black glass fired enamel ! So either design could have been pressed in to the band..
This did prove to be too costly after a few runs. So after a while they became one piece..

He was a bit of a neo nazi. He had solid gold SS rings made from the dies. Occasionally you will see them com up on the market.

Here are the original dies from the 50s/60s!!

ALRIGHT! we have a winner!! yes, ,,well he had it contracted out and I think a jeweler in Ohio cut the dies..

And I also see the HG seal.. I think he had a real one and made copies from it and then later a ring from it!

Also heard many of the high end daggers in collections came from him and his buddies [they were made up high end fakes]

Few years ago on one auction was die of this ring for sale. One piece version with runes. I will try to find on old comp pic of it. Do not know if it was from same maker or not.

Hap,,, here is an old one made up from this die..
His local jeweler couldn't do it 2 piece,,or it was too expensive,or it would be easier like this,,maybe he made a mold from a old ring, I can't remember, but the 2nd owner of the die [he had it like 30 years] had this made..

There has been copies of copies of copies. And, of course molds made from the copies and,,,there are everywhere in the world...

This ring had had made up for a collectors club called Gates of Vallhalla,,or something like that ,,and the first 13 were 24k supposedly ..

The owner had died a few years ago and the die and a few other pieces were missing from his collection. A lot of nice things came from his estate, the AH ring,,a Coburg stained glass window,,the famous HG cravat [pin] made pf gold and real precious gem stones,,AH water colors,,a lot of stuff but some things were missing when they went to open the chest to do an inventory and no one knows where this is now.. It was pretty big and very heavy......

This is the fairy tale I've heard more than once:

There was an original.. It just didn't belong to Steele...
The story was Steele talked the owner into letting him have the ring to make a few ink imprints with it to give away to some big spenders.

What actually ended up happening is that a copy was made of the ring without the owner knowing until later which caused a rift between them,, but Steele had the copy.!
From there all sorts of stories and things started happening. More and more 'authentic' HG rings started becoming made for sale etc.

Now,,this is all hearsay. It was a long time ago and the players aren't even alive anymore!

I have inspected a couple of these exact rings. They were nice but not good enough detail and the hallmarks were easy to see were fake if you knew what you were looking at.

yeah,, finally found a photo of one of the first, 3rd , early generation 2 piece rune ring.. Look real careful and you'll see it.. Real enamel on most of the early ones. I think this one maybe not..

you can see the 2 piece much better on these..

So they are at the shows and usually come with a good story. Old with natural age,,,,BUT, let someone else get it...

There was a SS ring with motto posted on another site. I received and email about it wondering if authentic.

NO, there has never been a mass produced private purchase ring with the SS motto on it period.. No matter how nice it looks, well made, where dug up,,it is a fake / fantasy...........

Yep, I had one of these. Nicely made, nicely aged. One problem was the letters 'DRGM' on the back of the cartouche. In the words of Elvis Presley: 'Return To Sender' or, in this case, dealer. Shame. It was a nice ring but I got my money back.
