hi everyone
just wondering what you think of this der stahlhelm steel helmets ring?
marked 800 silver. large 23mm ring.
any help would be great
cheers Todd
Todd,,, Oh man you got to try and get some better photos..
It's a nice looking ring.. Problem is the organization has been around just about continually since the Freikorps era,,maybe even earlier,,, up until current!
Does it have a joining / sizing seam at the rear of the band? Does the helmet appear to be real gold plate?
- when your taking your shots get a birds eye / overhead shot..
your photos are in the 65kb range.. As long as you keep it under 160kb your good! So you can go a lot bigger..
And, also after you take a big shot that might be too big use whatever editing program came with your computer and crop down to just the ring itself,,it will make it a close up shot while taking off KBs....
here's some photos of the top.
helmet looks to be gold to me.
cheers Todd
Nice ring, man- I haven?t seen one. Gaspare makes a good point about the age of the organization, so maybe with better photos (closer, more detailed) we can pinpoint era it was made.
Hard to date otherwise. Best of luck!
Todd,,, well,,, I'm wrong [and glad!]...... I thought they were always around. but not even close!
OK, started in 1918,,,, and by 1935 they got absorbed by the SA and the Veterans Bund.... But,,a short reemergence in 1951 but only a year or 2.. and thats it!
German veterans continued to like the emblem and unofficially used it for years.
.
They style of the ring in my opinion is not an early one.. More like 1940s / 1950s.. Try and make those big shots...
Todd, can you see a joining / sizing seam at the rear of band?
hi gaspare,
yes I've read about the organization and knew they were mostly ww1 vets
that joined and once the SA started they joined them. I had no idea about them being around still
till today. but I see you researched more about that. by the looks of it I can't see a seem on the shank. but I've wore this ring many times and it seems to be gold as it never discolours or turns green.
here's more photos for ya.
thanks for all the help
Those are a little better.. And it looks much better. everything looks fine about it..
For me I'd say its 99.9%,,,reason not 100%.. IF you were sure about the seam.. You see if there really is no seam its cast which would mean postwar.. Sometimes they match a solder and flux good to the ring and a experienced jeweler can solder it up and finish polish so good its almost impossible to see. Hopefully thats the case as this ring looks good...
thanks for your help gaspare. interesting ring! cheers!
I'll take a closer look at the shank to see if theirs a seam.
