This is a recent pickup of mine from Europe, a nice enamelled unit marked ring for the Torpedo Boat(destroyer) S32 of the Imperial German Navy. She was present at the Battle of Jutland. Oak leaf side panels, stamped 900 on the shank. 1914-1915 on the top of the cartouche. She was launched in 1914, so probably made for one of her original crew. A nice rare Great War example.

nice looking ring! Imagine it in mint condition!! [like it like that though!]
Sometimes hard to believe these rings are 100 years old and better!

Thanks, G! It would be spectacular in mint condition, although I agree, I like that this has a salty "been there" look. The seaman who owned it surely wore it with pride for many years. I haven't had many rings from the Great War, and picked it up on a whim, but it's a keeper for sure.

Anyone else have any cool WW1 rings to share? I'd love to see more.

Great ring, never saw these tricolor rings unit marked. Was it expensive?
Posted By: DAK1941 Re: WW1 Unit Marked Ring - 07/06/2016 03:27 PM
Thanks Hapur! I got it for a good price, but one very similar to it just sold for around $200.on American Ebay. I've been checking these out for a while, the unit marked ones seem difficult to find.

I think like WW2 rings you could get what ever you'd want,,,IF you have the money.. Maybe a rich aristocratic officer could have ordered them for his men,,or the soldiers themselves kicked in and would make an order..

Unionized commercial workers + cadeuceus = unionized healthcare worker( nazi nurse's ring?) as it appears to be a females ring? What u think, possible?

Posted By: Mark4321 Re: WW1 Unit Marked Ring - 08/12/2016 08:58 PM
rather special, this... it is genuine? Just wondering.
Posted By: Mike (aka Byzanti) Re: WW1 Unit Marked Ring - 08/12/2016 09:28 PM
It looks right to me, Mark- but then I don't know too much about these rings.... from what we see, that looks like authentic craftsmanship... This being said- loads of fake ones out there!
