Hi guys. I'm new to the forum and my question is "Are there any original rings made prior to 1945 out there with this design or are all rings with this design fantasy pieces produced after 1945 ?" Thanks !

They existed pre '45 and you can see them also in period catalogs.
But today they are rare to see around good.

And from pictures sometimes (for me at least) is not enough to understand if a ring is good or not.
The ring I posted here for example: when I saw it in hands I immediately realized it was a cast fake.

Thanks Anthony. I have a ring that has this design, has a clear 835 mark, the stones do not protrude through the back of the face, has only a depression behind the face and not behind the crossed bones, is smooth and shines easily, and does not have that chunky/clunky feel when you hold it. Can you guys take a look at the attached pictures and tell me what you think about it and why ? I would like to know some history on it if possible, even if it falls in the "fake" category. Thanks !

Welcome to the forum for the new guys. Hope you enjoy your selves. There are over 50 back pages so check 'em out..

it is 100% a wartime pattern.

This last example is old. But don't think its WW2 old. Since the war this ring has been made on and off until current times,,in Europe, the US, Asia...

Somewhere here we have [had?] a least one topic on this pattern. We showed adverts,,pretty sure I posted my zinc example etc.

There has been wartime examples that were hallmarked and made in Czechoslovakia,,and I'm sure German made examples..

Maybe someone can dig out the old topic on the ring and of course I invite anyone that has an authentic example to post it,,,,thanks , G..

Thanks Gaspare for the warm welcome! I look forward to plunging further into the past threads and especially hope to find the topic you mentioned with your example and the advertisements. I think the ring I have is pretty old, too. The smoothing on one side suggested being worn instead of stored. What about the ring makes you think it is not WW2 old?

klcrump, well on that one,,the mushy details, especially the nose, teeth etc.
Authentics have nice detail. All the teeth can be seen. Sorry this photo not good,,but the 2 red lines. One goes to 3 design 'dots',,the other , between the bones and head and a series of 'lines'. They are very fine..

ok,,found one showing the lines a little better.. These came in zinc, silver and a brass type alloy..

Thanks Gaspare! I clearly see what you are talking about. The ring I have does not have the fine lines between the skull and crossbones like the zinc ring. My silver ring appears to have been smoothed down by being worn - especially on one side and the top of the skull where cranial lines are present on the zinc ring. Or someone could have sanded my ring in an effort to make it look older. I'm not sure.

Also, I saw in the last photo that both the silver and the brass type alloy ring appear to have jewelers marks - mine only has the silver content mark of 835....is this significant as well ? How about the inside of the authentics? Are they more like Anthony's ring, my ring, totally different, or can be several different ways?

This is really cool stuff !!!!!

my last photo,,[photo of 3 skulls].. They are different patterns. Just the only photo I have showing the lines of the pattern you mention..
Almost all rings you will find with hallmarks and without..

Cool. Thanks again, Gaspare. Will keep my eyes open and hopefully be able to contribute to the forum in the near future !
