here is the hallmark........ and the write up on it....

HERMANN FEGELEIN'S SS-TOTENKOPF SILVER WAX SEAL STAMP HERMANN FEGELEIN (1906 - 1945) Nazi military leader and SS-Gruppenfuhrer a Knight's Cross winner with Oak Leaves. Fegelein married Eva Braun's sister and served as liaison between Hitler and Himmler but in the closing days of the war he was caught attempting to flee and was summarily executed. Rare and important relic and likely one of Fegelein's most treasured and used objects a sterling silver stallion's head wax seal used by him while serving as Commander SS-Totenkopf Reiter Standarte 1 (Warsaw). The superbly rendered solid silver horse's head stands 2 1/4"" tall and is hallmarked ""GAHR MUNCHEN"" the favored SS jeweler and maker of the SS-Totenkopf honor rings. The seal itself depicts nearly the exact same horse's head in profile and: ""T.R.S.T. 1 H F"". Excellent condition in original fitted presentation box (somewhat worn). The SS-Totenkopf-Reiter-Standarte 1 was formed in Warsaw in May 1940 from parts of SS-Totenkopf-Reiter-Standarte with Fegelein serving as its commander. It took part in fighting both the resistance and remaining Polish soldiers as well as in actions against Jews. It was redesignated SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 1 February 1941 and was assigned to Kommandostab RFSS.

Gaz,

It appears to be a seal. An item with a design on the bottom that was pressed into hot sealing that was dripped on the back of an envelope.

That said, I would be careful of things with the SS lightning runes that appear untouched. Hope it turns out good

G was this on offer from Hermann historica by any chance? It looks like something I've seen there, maybe last spring or last year? I can't recall what I saw of it, but there was something interesting...I'm not sure that it sold? Or maybe I saw it on an Alex. Autographs auction? Maybe there was discussion as to it being fegeleins or not, or maybe it was fegelein himself...was he the general who was a bit of a yes man? Shoot, I forget all the details. I think that's insanely cool if it's good, man. Thats gotta be a one-of a kind piece.

Dave,, yes,a wax seal for sure. Looks like its made correctly with the right heft etc. But not something for me. Just posted for the Gahr value! wink

Byz.,,I'm not sure which auction but yes it's from an auction house. You liking history you MUST do a search on Fegelein Byz! A most interesting character to say the least!!

As far as the piece,, Unless there is some kind of provenance I'm very suspicious of it.......

hi gaspare/members
in my opinion this is a fantisy piece if otto gahr firm made something like this for obergruppenfuhrer feigeleline it would have much more detail also the case is not german made no detail to that either plus the top lid would be two circles lighting bolts and last it would be marked 800/935 silber and thats my honest opinion best andy militarynut

I do not like the piece and remember when it was up on the block. It would not necessarily have to be more detailed to be Gahr, nor would it have to be a box in Runics with double circles that you would find with an honor ring, and there is just nothing other than Honor Rings for comparisons to be made on what went out in what box and using a presentation from the RFSS as a standard is probably not going to be accurate.

Looks to be solid silver and probably fairly heavy depending on the size, either way the box whether German or not is no in line with the piece in its weight and construction nor would it meet the prestige or quality of the Seal. So the box is a loser either way and the seal is at best questionable and without period documentation a speculative purchase.

"MUNCHEN"?

A "no go" for a german, should be "MÜNCHEN"

Odal is one of my chief translators.. And, of course he is right..

Gahr does or has used other hallmarks. But I believe all with Munich look like this..
