Woman's brooches were fashion in the 30 and 40 ties.

This brooch is a personal brass made brooch; made for a female NSB sympatisant ( Dutch National Socialistic Movement, collaboraters with the Nazis ).

In the middle a runic sign...
Text around is "LEVET SCONE" a Dutch medieval poem text, which were popular in wartime to show the "real" ("real", read NSB,Dutch nation sympatisants).
"LEVET SCONE" means: Live the good life...Enjoy the good/ beautifull of life.

On the back is used a period safty pin.I didn't clean it. smirk

I really like that!

I have something similar,,, I'll try and find it and post..

*Does this look like a mass produced piece? Or a one of a kind custom made piece?
Posted By: odal Re: Dutch NSB Brooch - 04/07/2012 09:15 AM
Indeed very nice items and for sure worth to collect!

I have seen within the years some very similar brooches. Most had the emblem of a period organisation. Nearly all were brass and had a needle system backside. Sometimes i had the impression that they were industrial made and some had manufacturers notations on the backside too.

On this brooch here i think the needle was replaced one time, but still a cool looking one.

Congrats and thanks for showing here!

Gaspare, I looked again to the letters inside... they are handmade. I also see very tiny help lines.

Odal, I had the same idea....but, there is no sign to see that the pin has been replaced.

Thanks guys for your reply!

Again a nice one!

found it!
1st thought it was a WHW item but they are usually marked so its probably not..

Only marking is on pin plate Ges Gesh.. A fairly common item..

Odal thanks for your reply, always appreciated.

Gaspare, a nice brooch. This is the first brooch I see with this mark.
I like these German runic forms, the lines go on in eternity. It is magic.

Here's that same " Ges. Gesch. " mark on yet another Heemkunst brooch ..

Interessting.
Thanks for showing.
With the "ges. gesch." on it, it seems to be german made.
Posted By: benten Re: Dutch NSB Brooch - 04/17/2012 12:44 PM
The brooch will be mechanical made.
The rune shows hammer beats, also mechanical made I presume. Hammer beat effects were fashion in the 30ties (and forties??).

A very nice brooch.

Posted By: Winkelman Re: Dutch NSB Brooch - 04/18/2012 01:20 AM
And thanks for showing your items .. !
I think it is just the pin-attachment that came from Germany - I have seen several different pins used for these brooches .
There's indeed a thin line with commercial fashion brooches from the period , that depict some more " neutral " decorations . But these rune-types are all O.K. in my book ..
Posted By: Winkelman Re: Dutch NSB Brooch - 04/18/2012 01:23 AM
Speaking of books , these Dutch brooches will be discussed in the upcoming book on NSB-insignia by Gaston Vrolings . I've read a few finished concepts & contributed some pics of items myself .
It has been a long time in the making , but it will definitely be worthwhile .. !

I have exactly the same one in my collection.

Thanks

Ado, can you show some pics of yours? I have some info on it. It is a civilian brooch not a military one. Would you sell or trade?

Here is mine...it is marked for 900 silver and has a maker mark "arrow" like Tyr rune.
Do you have any knowledge who is the jeweler with the tyr rune maker mark?

Thanks

Nothing spectacular, not even silver (only silvered) but worn by a close relative as a young maiden during the period.

I personally think this is RATHER special, in my mind. Of course you would never consider selling it?

Mark4321, thank you for your kind words. Yes, for me it is something special. And you are also right that I will not consider selling due to the mentioned personal fact.
But additionally I can show the reverse.

I've had this for years and didn't find out what it was until last year, Dutch NSB brooch.
Much cleaner than the picture shows and dark blue enamel.

Great old topic!

Jerry A company in the 80s were making those [USM I think]. . Don't know if a firm actually made them during the period, then it would be a reproduction or, if not a fantasy.

- We have a couple members who collect Dutch maybe they'll pass by and confirm or not..

The RZM is : M5/82 Steinhauer & Luck, Ludenscheid who made just about everything.. Just don't thick a pin like that would have a RZM...
Posted By: Jerry B Re: Dutch NSB Brooch - 08/10/2022 12:12 AM
Thanks for the input, you could be correct. I took a few pictures from a book in a serious collectors' library last year, I'll need to see who the author was and when it was printed. Attaching a few pics.

Thanks again Gaspare! Jerry

Yes, the print date as I'm sure on the 80s thing... - So yours is enameled? - - 86 described as 'stamped' 'dark blue colored metal', Stamped from a die? then blued?...

This is a tough one.. You gotta find a Tinne collector and/or a Foreign Volunteer collector...

Its got a nice look,,,but the RZM kills it for me.. Lets see maybe someone will see this and know something... Nothing wrong with holding on to that for now.. These small and especially foreign pieces can be extremely tough to authenticate 100% sometimes.........

heres another I found while cleaning my photos..[sorry no reverse]

Reminiscent of the 3rd reich era Wound WestWall spiral ring... Could be much earlier too as I've seen the design on 1920s and older pieces also

Posted By: benten Re: Dutch NSB & German Brooches - 08/18/2022 05:46 PM
The first prëwar badge left is known as the Black Sun (in the SS castle of the Wevelsburg) and also as a WHW item .
Yes, I agree the last brooch with the spirals reminds of the "Westwall jewellery" , but it can be older .

The brooch Black Sun and the brooch Odalah are my favourite.
Posted By: benten Re: Dutch NSB & German Brooches - 08/24/2022 01:35 PM
My brooch, bought in Germany, is die stamped out , which you can see clearly. It is a simple made brooch .

On internet I found more or less the same brooch, also stamped out but! with a “SS”mark on the backside and a Otto Gahr box … imo not SS and not made by Otto Gahr.

Please let me know your opinion about this .

Looks like the guy with the pointed helmet has a broken sword, and the other guy is repairing it. Depending on the correct order of the three images, which seem to repeat, he either broke the sword fighting the dragon, or he had it repaired before he fought the dragon. Whatever, they are both very cool bracelets.

Nibelung story bracelet is Norwegian made by Elvik Co. (and probably marked 830s) and has nothing to do with TR period and was imo post WW2 made and can be easily found for sale.

On the other hand that runic bracelet is just amazing!
Posted By: lore vergessen Re: Dutch NSB & German Brooches - 09/09/2022 01:43 AM
Thanks for all the compliments. The warrior bracelet has the owners name scratched on the back and her mother was from Norway. I had posted the bracelet before here, see for more info

Great info on the linked topic!! I can tell you that is not a piece you'd find in the US back then..

As mentioned similar made now or even that exact one copied.. but I wouldn't doubt that was a gift picked up while visiting the 'homeland' or sent to them as a present.
- Could be prewar to 1950 tops... Fabulous piece , great piece of workmanship

Come on,,,spotlight another one!
Posted By: lore vergessen Re: Dutch NSB & German Brooches - 09/11/2022 02:40 AM
Thanks G, good observations. Another possibility is a family heirloom piece.

Here is another shot of the runic bracelet and an interesting mother's brooch style with s runes. The mark on reverse looks like a hausmark for a family
