VonRader, this is a very nice and desirable RAD hewer. As you show an "in wear" picture of a hewer I might assume that it has been the original wearer of this hewer?
I think you did not get any response on your beautiful edged weapon because you have titled it as "fat man" which is, up to my knowledge, a well known fake item contrary to your "normal" hewer which is period without any doubt.
Can you, please, tell us more about how/where you got this edged wapon and the pic?

Wotan, Perhaps the word "prototype" should be used in place of "fake". This is the third one I've seen. First time I've seen the scabbard for the monster. Most impressive. Let's not bury the "fat man" so quickly.

Yes, Wotan is right. The dagger you show is a nice RAD AM, but NOT a "fatman".

Geb 14- It is not really a question of whether the "fatman" version is authentic period or post war parts dagger, the point is that the dagger shown in THIS thread is NOT a "Fatman".

VonRader & Geb14- Check out the following link which discusses thew "fatman hewer" with pics. There you will see the difference.
Hope this helps..

Johnny V., I stand corrected. Didn't even have to look at the link. Apparently, I read the post wrong and didn't look at the picture quite close enough. Amazing how this crow tastes just like chicken. Roll Eyes

Ok, looked at the link, read the posts. Would be sitting on Ron's side at the wedding.

Gang, I stand corrected, This is a group I purchased from a vets family. Yes the photo came with the dagger. The collection was in a closet since the war. He stated that is uncle was in the Army and "found it" in a RAD job sight. That is all I know.

Hi chaps!

Glad to know Seany has a scan of my article on the RAD Fat Man. I had some debate about this on this site a couple of years ago, but I was unable to find my copy of the article to post up as a feature. As I was debating this with Ron Weinand (Ron thinks they are real, but late period - I think they are real, but early period), would someone please pass on a copy to Ron so he can see what I was talking about.

In fact I have no objection if someone was to post the entire article up here on the GD site, for the interest of all RAD enthusiasts.

Hi Fred i have sent him a copy should be interesting to see his comments
Sean
Fred, I received your article and thank you. I still maintain that these are real and, unfortunately, due to the fittings and the painted scabbards, I still feel these are not real early. I never said they were very late, but more like the transitionals-plated fittings instead of the early, nickel silver types as seen on early Eickhorns and others.
Your work is very good and you have some good points.
I KNOW I have seen the FAT MAN style blade in a 1930s catalog for foreign hewers and it was label as a mining official's dagger in one of the Baltic countries, but I can't find it again.

This is a very exiting topic and just the thing I love this forum for. Could someone please send me the article aswell? Thing is, I accually passed on a "fatman" down in Germany last year. I was in this very small town just outside Bamberg and went in to an antiquestore. Picked up a couple of really nice tinnies in there. Any who... I was looking as this 1st model Luft he had and the owner says he has another TR dagger. I told him to show it and out comes this monster of an RAD dagger.
