I think this is an orginal NPEA dagger, but the frog is for a regular bayonet, not the NPEA
best regards Fredrik
Mr.Ronald Weinand Has a great book on this type of thing...A good place to start..
Yes i have the book, and its look ok
/fredrik
That is great you have the book..
Can you post pictures of the scabbard?? Regards: James
Really like the woodgrain pattern!
This dagger does not look correct to me. The school markings should be stamped. The grip color and grain is not the usual for this school and time period. The blade maker mark etching looks too thin. The lug on the scabbard looks too long. Pictures of the ends of the grip when taken apart would confirm my suspicions, plus a look at the tang.
John
But in Mr Winands book about Npea daggers, my dagger looks just like the ones from the Spandau school. and its look like the marking on the crossguard is right, and i dont see anything wrong. but im going to look at the tang and grip.
best/fredrik
The SP marking on your example is routed in, as opposed to stamped. Yours only has one period, and it is round. Look at the stamping on the example I posted. Maybe Ron will comment as well.
Pictures of the inside of the cross guards, the ends of the grips, and of the tang would help.
Looks like a lot of red flags. Post a pic of the scabbard without the frog.
Thanks for all help, i didnt buy it. everything was fake,
best regards Fredrik
Wow! I noticed that it just sold for $2728.00 and had 21 bids. Looks like someone, some day, is going to be Very unhappy!
Yes, that is unfortunate. Probably a young collector making his first big purchase....probably his last....
Where? on Ebay?
i didnt buy it, thanks to all nice people on this forum
YES,,,where was this item sold???...maybe the buyer will be watching this forum and tries to get his money back...
Does any one have the link to the ebay?
was it a swedish seller?
/best fredrik
Looks like a seller from
Ft Myers Florida, Top-rated seller ybbs-donau ( 2366)
John in your opinion was that one OK? Believe it was stamped NO 34 or something like that
No, the one on eBay was bogus too. The grip was made recently, the Number stamp is unknown, and the style of the numbers is wrong. The scabbard is a repro..long lug, attached ball on the end(real ones the ball was part of the 2 stamped halves which was soldered together). I suspect the blade is a repro with the high ridge with an early Burgsmuller marking...I'd have to see the tang to be sure.
Their bad. If you look in my latest book you will see the proper letter and number fonts and the details that give these fakes away.
Thanks John for the info I see what you are saying confirmed my feelings I have Ron's books but they are in storage during house move.Very expensive junk eh
Thanks for all your help
best regards a happy Swede
To preserve the pictures of the second Fake NPEA, I have copied them here.
