Hello
Yes I agree this one is very bad.
Best regards

Let's see now....I'm in the desert, sand everywhere... I know, I'll put wire on my helmet so I can attach foliage!
That's just the beginning of what's wrong with this one.
Actually there are period photo's showing chickenwired helmets in use in N. Africa.
The helmet in question has post-war applied chickenwire, patina and camo, my opinion..
I think Perry is right in that the chicken wire in addition to being used for foliage has a more important feature in breaking up the shape and silouete of the helmet. Thus it would be equally as useful in Africa. With that said I agree with everyone else that the complete exterior of this helmet has been reworked post war.
Erik
Right you are - it does break up the shape a bit. I have never seen a photo of it in use in N. Africa. Italy is another case of course. Anyway, one learns something new every day.

Hi guys,
I do have bad feeling about this helmet, the outside paint looks funny, and the inside dome looks to tidy and in very good condition. About the wire Mmmmmm I have doubt the authentic for the whole helmet...Plus the story making it worst, hope I was right about this. Cheers Mike
Judas, Save your money...I know the person who makes these wires and yes he is a New Zealander and completely makes them from scratch. He used to sell them separately on ebay and our own trademe. There are a couple of key details which tells me they are his which when I see these wire's I always look for. However this wire and helmet has definately gone under quite a prosess to get to this stage. probably mated to a fake ebay camo piece of rubbish and then weathered togeather.
hope this helps
Greg
Thats not very choice cuz
thanks every one. thanks greg you are right this was on traid me down here but seems to have gone.i think i know who you mean in-regards to making them.the story no hands on. some thing fishy going on.i did not bid on this but it seems every one who liked it had fake stuff ??? buy the way greg i see you got your self a very nice bandoller at a VERY good prise kind regards
what makes this fake is it the camo itself the wire
the wire looks good what can you tell me i have been looking and looking at these sorts on the w.a.f.and just cant seem to get on top of it .kind regards
Hi Judas,
The first time I saw this helmet I recognised the wire straight off, but then when you see it mated to the helmet you can tell the helmet and wire have been through a weathering prosess. Most wire's have an age of patina already prior to going on a helmet as the wire maybe 20/30 years old or near new it may of come from a chicken coop/pigpen and often will have a build up in the twists which I really like to see especially in the chicken wire helmets. The surface of this helmet sorta looks like the camo and wire have undergone a type of blasting and chemical /acid washes. The whole thing to me just looks contrived and unnatural and I'm not even looking at the colours and then you look at the inside and liner is almost untouched and kinda looks weird to say the least. Its the whole package which is just all to common on ebay.
Hope this helps Judas,
Cheers Greg
ps:- Thanks, I was pretty happy with the Bandoleer
thanks for that i have not had a camo in hand and i found it hard to determine from the photo of it
i take it this is what you like to see in build up in wire i see its back up on there.kind regards
