There is just enough "shine" on the decal to make it hard to tell for sure (my eyes are getting old) but it looks like it may be good. It appears from the swastika and the tail of the eagle that this decal is sitting on top of another decal. Would need clearer close ups to be certain.
Cheers,
Mike
Here are some responces which makes sense to me.
There are two decals there. Note the swastika area and the area on the outstretched wings. However, there is rust bleed through on the "newer" decal, and the age and yellowing look right. I am not, unfortunately, a decal wonk. ADHD people like myself aren't too good with real vs. fake decals. Looking at the wear and the effects of age are two important criteria. I think you have an original "double decal" helmet, although not DD in the sense usually implied.
This did occur on occasion. I have an M35/40 Waffen-SS helmet arsenal reissue with two SS decals. The liner is a combo of the M40, but with the earlier aluminum rectangular chinstrap hangers. It is nice to run across variations like these. .

looks like a repaint reissue with 2nd period decal added over old decal, looks good to me .
Maybe a bit late but what is the batch number of this lid... and maker + helmet size?
