WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK FOR WHEN TRYING TO DETERMINE IF A LINER HAS BEEN REPLACED,I KNOW THE LINER RIVETS WOULD LOOK DISTURBED BUT ANY INPUT WOULD BE NICE. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CHECK FOR ANY MARKINGS ON THE LINER BAND.

Look for signs that the legs of the split rivits have been bent more than onece. Checkto see if the liner is in tight, or loose (even undisturbed liners on a well used helmet can be a bit loose) and check the area on the exterior of the helmet around the head of the rivit for signs that it has been removed. This is noticeable on re-issued/repainted/camoflaged helmets. As for the band, an early (M35) helmet should generally have an early liner band unless it was reworked to be reissued. One can in some cases gently pull the band away from the shell and record the maker and date. Some however, especially the smaller sized helmets, are almost impossible to inspect without damaging the band.
