Pvon:

That Damascus Tiger came to me via Lakesidetrader and Jason at a show several years back. They actually presented me with two Damascus Lufts and I eventually bought both.

The other is a Fridericus. I will save that for a Fridericus thread.

Here's my contribution to the Tiger blades, both Damascus. The Damascus Luft was acquired directly from the German vet in Germania. The Army is listed in Johnson's volume V reference book.

Thank you for getting these threads started. Some of the forums were getting too quiet. Glad to see some great items.Ron

There were many different patterns offered on Damascus blades, the small rosebud being the most common type as shown on the Army dagger. One of the rarest damascus blade was the large rosebud pattern which is represented on the Luft. This is actually one of the only large rosebud pattern known to date. All rosebud damascus were made by Paul Dinger and were mounted on both Tiger and Fridericus alike, so those that thinks that Fridericus damascus were better than Tiger are just being dead wrong.
Thank ylou for the good words.

Hey Pat,

I might have misunderstood your statement, so not trying to ruffle any feathers because I'm no damascus expert and always willing to learn from the more knowledgeable like you.

Would you mind explaining in further detail your statement that all rose pattern damascus blades we see were made only by Paul Dinger? I might be wrong but wasn't their others that produced rose pattern damascus blades and or a combination there of like your small rose and maiden hair pattern. Like Alexander Muller, Max Dinger, Arthur Dinger, Karl Wester,etc..?

From your first picture I see the brighter lines that suggest a large rose pattern, but in your closeup pictures I see a small rose pattern? Is it just the pictures? Thanks for showing such fine blades for us to learn from. Best!

Hi Mikee,

I'm no damascus expert either and I'm getting everything I know from books and you know what, I may very well be dead wrong on this, others were also probably making rosebud damascus but not that many. If I'm correct, in WWII Germany there were no more than 5 or 6 craftsman capable of making damascus but everyone made unique blades, none were similar between craftsman. For example, this type of rosebud is specific to Paul Dinger anf if others were also making rosebuds, they were somehow different. James Brown is the expert on this and he would sure know all this.

Damast

I like those swords!

Thanks again John for showing Fridericus!

Daggers with Damascus blades!A real treat of beauty!

I have seen Tiger.Alcoso,Eickhorn.and Fridericus damascus
and am blown away with them!

I wondered who else made them and you are showing them!

Is there much difference in patterns among makers?

Are certain makers rarer than others?

PVON

Thanks for showing guys!
