Thanks Paul I really love the beauty of the waffenrock – a few snaps showing the details of the artillery

Tom
You have captured the beauty in your photo's!

I always thought they were under valued at one time
by collectors!

They just make a collection come alive and to get that Dr's
one is tremendous!

They are like m&m's you want the cav, inf, panzer, etc!

And of course the right condition visor and extra's!

Then like a cake the edgeweapon to top it off!

Perfect display!

I could stare at them all day long as well, beautiful uniforms. Thanks

Many thanks guys for the comments. I started collecting waffenrock when I had trouble finding nice army daggers for my collection. I always remembered the images and films of the grand parades and always liked the parade uniforms. Seems now the tide has shifted for me finding a nice waffenrock is very difficult these days. It’s quite rewarding to research and set up a period correct display - finding all the right stuff and piecing them together one item at a time. Look forward to posting a few more for you guys.

Did you see the grouping on butscheck? There is a waffenrock with a german cross on it. Only thing is that the lanyards are separated in the trunk of paperwork.
Posted By: WW2-Collector Re: Waffenrock !! - 11/21/2013 02:04 PM
Kyle I have seen the Butschek waffenrock with the German Cross. The one I really liked and was interested in was the Rudolf Datz waffenrock. It’s already exceeded what I was willing to pay - Great waffenrock though.

Tom:

I think it's your fault that waffenrocks are now increasing in price wink

Your great pictures have turned us all on to these wonderful items.

Thanks guys. Here is one of my favorites and some detailed shots of the waffenrock. Certainly one of the most historical pieces in my collection. Private tailored waffenrock by B.Hermann & Co Frankfurt named to Dr. Winkler. I was fortunate to research Dr. Hermann Winkler and received an extensive 32 page file on him that includes a photograph of him. He was a Dr. of experimental Psychology and as stated previously later promoted to General Lieutenant a German Cross in gold recipient and was hanged in Russia in 1946 for war crimes. You often hear about patina on edge weapons waffenrock can also exhibit patina. This waffenrock has a beautiful patina evident in the pictures. The materials and tailor work are the finest I have seen and surpass any other waffenrock I own to include several examples I own from the famous tailor Wilhelm Holters. This waffenrock was purchased in Germany form the family in the 1970,s and remained in that collectors hands for many years. The grouping includes Winkler’s visor – the Aiguillette and the Hamburg cross.

Winkler, Hermann (1888-1946) [Generalleutnant] -- military commander, Nikolayev {taken prisoner by Soviet troops; put on trial at Nikolayev by a Soviet war crimes tribunal 11 Jan 1946 (NYT 12 Jan 1946:4:1); convicted and sentenced to death by hanging 17 Jan 1946; executed at Nikolayev with 6 others 17 Jan 1946 while a crowd of 65,000 watched (NYT 18 Jan 1946:12:1; LT 18 Jan 1946:4g; History of the United Nations War Crimes Commission and the Development of the Laws of War p. 529, United Nations War Crimes Commission, London: HMSO, 1948).
