As you might know, the Armor School used to at Fort Knox in Kentucky. About 5 years ago, it was moved to Fort Benning. The rationale was that since Infantry and Armor worked closely together, they should be trained together.

The move to Fort Benning included moving the Armor Museum. Much of the artifacts had been stored outside in Kentucky and were stored outside at Fort Benning.

And some of those items are great. Vern and I spent an hour or so trying to identify them all.

5+ years later, they are being restored.

That move was not (understandably)well received by the Tanker community. Infantry '72 -'83 "Follow Me"!

I went to the Armor school in the fall of 1968, Fort Knox.
Took a lot of those M-48s, M-60s and M-113 apart and back together again. A great time. US Army, 68-71. Ed

Andy, I'll bet the move was was not well excepted by anyone who went to Armor School. Things sure are different now, compared to 1968.
I have been following this site trying to learn for years, just thought I would throw my 2c in.
I collect US combat knifes, German daggers, and against JR's advice, everything else old.

The Infantry was not exactly thrilled at the arranged marriage either.

Ft. Benning was home to the Infantry School. The holy font of all military wisdom .... at least in their eyes. Now Ft. Benning is the Maneuver Center of Excellence, so Infantry shares the billing with Armor and Cavalry. Next thing you know, the Air Force will open an office there that teaches air support to fighter pilots.
