WWII Gas ration stamps
"A" card -good for 3-4 gallons a week
1936 Ford MPG was about 17 ?
Hard times on the home-front too !
On the plus side... no president Eisenhower yet and no interstate highway system... (no suburbs!)... i have heard about some truly insane commute times for folks here near big cities.... no wonder people are working from home! Nice period piece, thanks for sharing it!!! Looks like the state there is D.C.-- how bad is that commute today??
I can remember when I was in Germany 62-65 Ratione3d gas on post was 15 cents a gallon I was rationed 50 gal when I had my 51 VW and 100 Gal when I had my 53-56 Mercedes:)
100 gal of fuel for 15.00:) That was per month
DC commute times are about 60 minutes to go anywhere during peak times and longer if there is weather involved.
100 gal of fuel for 15.00 (an amazing price)
officially didn't matter how much money you had during WWII no ration stamp/card - no sale
hence black market profiteering for liquor, meat, sugar, chocolate and gasoline.
