After 71 years the eagle was recovered in Narvik harbour. Was found 200 meters from the shore, 67 meters deep.
Was found 10 meters from the main wreck, which maybe saved it from "treasure hunters" all this time.
Going to end up in the Narvik war museum for all to see.

13 of April 1940, "Erich Giese" was sunk during allied bombing raids in Narvik harbour.
Very interesting! Thanks for posting.

Here is some info regarding the bronze eagle from the Graf Spee.

I'm going to side with the German government on this one. That bird belongs in a museum where it can be preserved and appreciated by all.

(Why do I feel like Indiana Jones all of a sudden?) wink
