Members I am so glad to be here I must say. This is my dilemma.....I have an HJ knife RZM 30 which according to assorted maker lists would be made by Gebruder Grafrath but mine says Grawiso Solingen. I add a scan of the marks of my knife. I do not have a camera but only a scanner. If more scans are needed let me know as I may be able to get some decent images. Thanks for looking. Regards Robert

Gebr. Grafrath used "GRAWISO" as a trade mark on their HJ knives wink

Hello Robert,

As explained by Vern, your HJ-knife's blade markings are correct.

I would like to ask you if this "1936" marked HJ-knife, has the "Blut und Ehre!" etched on the obverse blade side?

Best regards,

Herman

Herman There is no trace of any motto that I can see. I'll try at some point to scan the entire knife to show but to the naked eye no motto. Regards Robert

Hello Robert,

Don't worry about it, it is something very typical about these "Grawiso" and "G. Grafrath" HJ-knifes: most are marked "1936", but you find them with and without the motto. This is most unusual but these are all original.

Best regards,

Herman

Herman Would some be marked grawiso then or G. Grafrath sometimes? Thanks for your help. Regards Robert

Yes, that is correct, Robert.

There are also early HJ-knifes, without RZM mark, only "Grawiso" marked. (see picture)

Best regards,

Herman

Great Info. Thank You Sir.

Mine is also an early Blut und Ehre etched Grawiso without RZM....
Grawiso is a combination of the Grafrath brothers, Solingen-Widdert (which is the locality):

GRA WI SO

Many companies did this, for example Arthur Schuttelhofer, Solingen: ASSO
Artur Melcher, Solingen: ARMESO

I need to thank everyone for their help. Basically these are abbreviations of the makers name and locale. Makes perfect sense to me. Regards Robert

Check out the side bar on the right ...GDC reference library > http://www.germandaggers.com/Gallery/Makers.php maker distributor marks

Some producers but not all of them practice the abbreviated logo
