Anton Wingen Jr: the inventor of the HJ-knife? - 11/01/2016 06:31 PM
Anton Wingen Jr is in my opinion one the most interesting -but currently underestimated!- makers of HJ-knifes. There are-so many variations, that the HJ-knifes by Anton Wingen Jr can be a collecting objective on their own.
But why could he be the inventor of the HJ-knife?
- It is the only maker, who made early HJ-knifes before the appearance of the HJ motto "Blut und Ehre!"
- The very early "eagle heads" by Wingen, were actually fighting knifes (1st from left) , to whom the HJ-diamond was added into the obverse grip plate; via a rather rough cut-out (2nd from left) or via the famous Anton Wingen JR screwed rivet (3rd from left).
- Later, when the motto appeared, Wingen made another "eaglehead" variant, with the early "no ricasso" blade (4rd from left).
Best regards,
Herman
