You will never know when this was done. But occasionally it was done during the period for sure. Even when the HYknife has had a regulated Price not each family could afford one.

First a pic with an unnormal big emblem between the rivets, nearly touching the rivets...
Second pic with what is obviously a trench knife with attached emblem at a very uncommon place down the gripplate.

Wotan,thanks for these pictures
The second picture is very interesting.
This knife must be the earliest HJ knife IMO made by Wingen.
Here is the picture of the same knife.

Thanks for the pics and info. The diamond looks to have wear
consistent with the age of the knife. My quess is the insert is an early membership pin. Reguards Dave

Diamond on these are attached via spanner bolt right?
A factory produced piece for sure. Thanks

Dave,

Which maker mark does your knife has? From what I can see it is not an Anton Wingen Jr?

Wotan, Stingray,

Interesting pictures and knife!

It is an early Anton Wingen Jr "eaglehead" HJ knife, with "screwed on" HJ embblem, only made by this maker!

So far, I have found 2 other versions of the Wingen "eaglehead" HJ (see hereunder), but only the thin blade version bears the HJ motto.

Best regards,

Herman

Hi Dave.
It isn't sure that I will be able correctly to introduce in English the idea, but I will try.
The emblem at daggers points which I saw less by the size than that which we see at daggers points HJ.Krask on emblems falls off often, such impression that on a sign beat. I couldn't understand why so occurs and sorted two daggers. In photos I will try to show everything, the tin remains are well visible, the emblem is taken from an early badge of the member of HJ, to RZM.
I can't prove when these knifes were made, but I assume that it is early knifes or are made for one organization under the order.

Many thanks and best regards,

Hello Ivan
Yes, This method of attachment appears to me that it would be much stronger than the standard diamond attachment. Although I do not know what is was, I believe it is possible this knife may have been made/issued for a sub branch of HJ, or maybe required different qualifications to earn this knife.
Great photos and info, Thanks for sharing........Dave

It is rather a trench art piece.

Yes, Perhaps I didnt use "ersatz" in the correct context...
I was referring to the knife not being factory produced with the diamond, but was almost surely used in place of an HJ knife that was not redily available. I still like it !Reguards Dave
