Seems odd, there is no date on it, since it's transitional?
What makes it "transitional"? The seller says its rare, what makes it rare?

The early HJ's all had the motto and a maker mark. The transitional HJ's refer to when they went to RZM code mark with no motto. Most transitionals have a maker mark and RZM code, with motto...then RZM, no motto. A few(rare) were made with the RZM only and a Motto...until they dropped all mottos toward then end of 1938.
