I like it.

Looks very similar to my very early brass based Klaas army that is also hand tooled and lumpy like yours.

I agree with Tom K that the crossguard may have been based on an early WKC pattern with the eagle looking a bit to the front on an oblique angle.

That is a very unusual army Tom. I agree it has the initial WKC crossguard (also used by Weyersberg). I have never seen a WKC guard enhanced in that manner. I would sure like to know if WKC was making guards before Pack. If so, and the dagger was mine, I would be thinking that Pack bought fittings from WKC before they started producing their own. Per Tom Wittmann, that kind of thing was not uncommon in the very early days. In any case, the dagger is unique and very beautiful.

I just purchased the twin of Tom's dagger. It is Pack also.

do you still have the dagger or already have sold it?
I would be very interesting to compare them.

A better picture of the crossguard.

Wow Janos: What a beauty.... Looks like we have an as yet undocumented Pack variation. When you see a unique variation you think, I wonder if that is real or the result of a garage experiment. When you see the same variation from 2 different sources, you have to think this is a legitimate variation - one that is beyond rare. The cool thing about your dagger is that we know Pack enhanced their crossguards in a manner similar to yours - and Tom's. I have always believed the hand enhanced ones are the earlier versions. Perhaps these really are Pre-Pack crossguard production - crossguards purchased by Pack from WKC - before they made their own. Many believe that the earlier Pack armies had the trademark placed further down on the blade.... These daggers offer a lot to think about. The scabbard screws on both daggers appear to be Pack as well. You really have my interest going here. Can we see a closeup of the pommel?

Well those little dots tapped into the top of the pommel scream Pack.

Look what I have found on a European website!
I have only the photo, the auction was over when I noticed it.
They are still lurking out there...

janos sweet dagger what did this sell for?

LOVE these daggers by Pack, Engraver must have had too much coffee before he worked on these! Just have to admire all the hand work! Also like to hear what she went for?

It was a Buy it now auction on a Hungarian website. The price was approx 650 USD.

What is interesting about the Pack from the Hungarian website, is that it looks to me like the later WKC hatchet beak crossguard?? Did Pack still purchase cross guards from WKC when they switched to this type of cross guard? Very interesting to say the least!

Dion now if that is a WKC hatchet beak and it looks like it is something does not add up-that crossguard coupled with a slant grip?

I'n not sure exactly what the crossguard Janos references is, but I'm fairly sure it is not based on the Hatched Beaked type. The top of the head is too far below the top of the crossguard for that.

At a glance, I believe it may in fact be another early WKC example. The head is in the right position, and the left shoulder on the early WKC birds is higher than the right shoulder (as you face the guard). The guard on the dagger Janos presented also has a higher left shoulder. There seem to be too many leg feathers, but I cannot find another guard that fits better.
