Hey all,

I'm not a collector and don't have much interest in becoming one, but my dad gave me a dagger that he said his uncle brought back from his time in Europe during WW2 and I searched around the internet but couldn't find one that looks quite like it. I'd like to have it identified and maybe get a ballpark idea of how much it might be worth if I wanted to sell it. Due to the file size limit and the downsizing of the file, it isn't visible from the picture, but at the base of the blade is etched "Lauterjung Duisburg" - assuming I'm reading it correctly. There are no other symbols or marks that I can see.

Thanks!

What you have is known in collector circles as a fireman’s bayonet and leather belt frog. They are fairly common and not generally worth a lot. The maker’s mark is uncommon so it might generally a little interest although the bock tape around the grip might be hiding cracks in the bakelite. Not sure about that.
