Collectors

Does the color of a handle make a difference!

I know some collect by maker, type, early, late.

Material used for handle! Condition!

I my self are drawn to the color!

Of course slants and that deep orange, pumpkin orange, red, yellow.pure white!

Very pleasing to the eye!

The so called frozen juice, glass type! A term that everyone knows what your talking about
even if not proper term!

Does color increase value? Some say yes and some say no!

For me I think it does! I know I would pay more if I really liked it!

I know,urban myth of black handles,funeral,painted etc!

Makes the whole thing interesting doesn't it!

Your thoughts!

I am even going to add a few navy because of color!

Well? I have been doing this for about 20 years. OR should I say ONLY 20 years.
If a person is not going to pay extra for a special grip on a dagger, they will probably never have a special dagger, not color, not glass, not juice, not anything.
To me, on Luft, Heer, or Kreigs daggers, it's all about the grip. The color, the fit, the material.
BUT, THATS ONLY ME. What the hell do I know.
Nice daggers P

Now there's proof.
Nothing wrong with the Imperial Navy at all, but the one on the right and left put it to shame for me.
The one on the right is a KILLER.

Hi Ed

How about these that were Bob C from this forum!

He allowed me some pics!

Now I get bored! Or should I say got bored with just plain jane army etc!

Don't get me wrong,I will take them and be happy!

But some thing about these daggers with that color
just rings the bell!

Ivory, Bone, don't even go there, a step up from color, or several steps up.

Seany, oh yea!!! RED, sweet. And yes the glass ones.
To me, the grip is the first thing I look for.
Very nice guys, thanks.

Those are totally awesome daggers. You did well.

Thanks Paul and Ed! From the left, Plumacher, Voos and Axt & Hauerfabrik.

The Plümacher was my first Army, minty condition and came to me from the vet’s daughter. Can’t really get better than that as a new collector. I doubt I’ll ever sell it.

The others are just ones I picked up and also didn’t want to let go. Had a few other slant grips that I sold off last year, they didn’t tweak me like these do.

When you get a grip on a dagger that shows two colours then you buy it.

So the question remains! What makes you want to buy dagger? Is it color, maker, rarity, minty, etc!

Its fun to discuss the reasons and gives us collectors a chance to have some fun on German daggers!

I encourage collectors to share thoughts and pics!

Yes I know many have shown before!

But to the oldtimers! Many have not seen your goodies! Enjoyed your discussion on daggers and your thoughts
you may share!

I just like seeing stuff and maybe learn someting!

You might persuade someone to collect something they didn't know they liked!

You get to see your stuff any time you want!

You might think everyone knows everything about types or etches, named, maker etc!

I can assure you thats not the case!

I like white stuff that displays well!

White is nice!

The first photo is a section of a yellow grip showing the color of the original material. It's from a thread we had years ago discussing grip color when the dagger was assembled and sold wink

I just revisited this older topic. Fantastic items are shown.

Is there a link to a thread that discusses the (Glass-like)/(Artificial amber), grips? Wondering what there composition is.

Appreciated, --dj--Joe
Posted By: wotan Re: Does the color make a difference? - 08/14/2023 03:31 PM
Hello derjager, there is at least one thread
https://forum.germandaggers.com/ubb...p;Words=amber&Search=true#Post349427
and as far as I know and can remember the composition (of at least one kind, there are several kind of "glass" - artificial amber grips) is from phenolic resin.
Regards,
Posted By: derjager Re: Does the color make a difference? - 08/14/2023 11:31 PM
Wotan, thank you for the link and the information.

When I think of amber My mind sees the smoky yellow ranges. I know there are darker orange to red ranges too.

Are the "glass" type grips a solid through color?

--dj--Joe
Posted By: wotan Re: Does the color make a difference? - 08/23/2023 02:06 PM
Hello derjager, the artificial amber grips, the socalled glass grips, are like the nickname says, translucent. I know that it is not very easy to judge if an opac grip (which sometimes are also called artificial amber grips) falls into the category artificial amber. But as said, for me the classic artificial amber grips are the translucent "glass grips". You can observe that sometimes in these grips there are added (during the manufacturing process) some kinds of somehow glittering lamellas or something equal looking material which should resemble any dust or very small items covered in (real) amber. Such material also can be found in a certain kind of grip with nearly opac material (therefore seen only on the surface) so this shows me that these can also be counted to the "artificial amber" grips. To my best knowledge, all artificial amber grips are in the middle orange tone range, not those darker ones.

I hope I could describe it correct and understandable.

Regards,
Posted By: derjager Re: Does the color make a difference? - 08/24/2023 12:53 AM
Wotan, very concise and understandable.

With the ability to purchase and add these grips, I wonder about Heer daggers and the white factory grip theory. (?) Not a set-in-stone regulation?

--dj--Joe
Posted By: wotan Re: Does the color make a difference? - 08/25/2023 09:45 PM
Hello derjager, this is about what I thought, when the "white grip theory" started. My opinion alsways has been that there have been produced absolutely "intended" yellow grips. I think to remember having seen a color film of Eva Braun´s father wherin he wore an army officers uniform with dagger and so far I could see it´s grip was yellow toned.
I also always have thought that the germans would have been tough enough to know how these mass "white" grips would tone after a short time, after light.
For me the "white grip theory2 never did exist in real.
