Great news:

Tom Wittmann has a great new video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wX8XDK0Am_k&feature=youtu.be

It is an in-depth look at DLV / Luftwaffe swords, daggers, and hangers. Almost 42 minutes. I don't collect Luftwaffe items but I watched it all the way through.

Even seen a DLV Sword ?

if there are other topics you'd like him to cover, email him or better yet, post it here and I'll relay it.

Just watched the video.
Super daggers and swords.
The Carl J. Krebs etched 1st was just super, my favorite maker.

Ed,

I too love CJ Krebs and own a Voos pattern 2nd model Luft dagger by them.

Billy G.
Years ago, got my first Army by Carl J. from JR. A deep red grip, and fit to end all fitting.
Have several now, and have been looking to get a 2nd Luft by him with a unique grip. No luck so far.
Those Voos are really something to see, congrats.

Don't mean to hijack the thread.

Ed, here's a pair of shots I managed to resize. The blade is by no means mint but still nice enough to stay in the collection.

And the adler. There's a bit too much light in these pics so that the etch looks washed out but it remains crisp with a lot of the early frost along with the age.

Billy
I would have NO problem having that in my flock of eagles.
Looks nice, and a great solid makers mark.

Hello Billy G, you have a VERY nice and rare 2nd luft by KREBS.

Regards,

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen. When I saw this dagger, I just knew it was a period etch. But I also knew that most guys only want such an etch from Voos. I've long liked old Carl Julius' wares and was happy to get this one in my collection.

Very nice, Billy.

Voos style etches have been found on unmarked, Voos marked (duh), CJ Lrebs, Klaas, Horster and WKC marked blades.

Here are shots of the maker marks and the eagles associated with these marks.

A very impressive flock for sure.
Are they all yours???
If so, hoe sweet, and kind of cruel to some of us (ME).
Very nice indeed.

Yep, all mine, plus an unmarked blade voos style etch.

Thank you,

John

Thanks, John,

I appreciate your contributions and am jealous of those ! My only Voos etch is on my very first dagger - an Emil Voos SA dagger.

WOW.... super looking etched blades Gentlemen. Unfortunately I sold my etched Voos when I sold all my 2nd Lufts!!
Would be great to see Witmann do a talk on Army daggers. Problem is, that would take up hours of talking and watching! That topic just has too much info to cover!

Send him an email then. He's listening

John,

That's quite a collection of off-maker Voos etched blades, love them all!
Posted By: JohnZ Re: Unmarked Voos no dots - 02/23/2021 04:00 PM
I see two variations of the Voos etch on 2nd luft blades. The first variation, which applies to all maker marked blades is the standard Voos etch without additional dots near the front of the etches.

The second variation, which I have only seen on unmarked blades has two additional dots near the front, and I have always thought that that was it, no dots on maker marked blades and additional dots on unmarked. Of course, there are other differences relating to the positioning of the etch in relation to the crossguard and due to the need for space for the maker marks.

My friend, Ivan, steered me to an unmarked Voos style etched dagger without the extra dots. So, I now have two variations of the Voos etch on unmarked blades.

Here are pictures of the Voos marked front border, the extra dot unmarked and the new no dot unmarked.

Thx, Ed.

I am blessed by having good friends who look out for me.

This dagger came to me from Ivan (Stingray).

John,

Another great addition. Ivan does find some nice stuff.

One might argue that I get all excited over fly speck variations, but I think that this is a legitimate etch variety.

John
I think that's what collecting is all about, variety in the objects.
Why would a person want several of the same etch when there are different varieties out there.
I always look for something NEW in a Heer dagger, color of grip or the crossguard hand work on the eagle.
Only natural.
I for one always enjoy looking at your Luft Eagles, the CJ Krebs the most.
Thanks

I'm with you - one of the fly-speckers, but mostly in regard to SS daggers.

Boring to some, but such knowledge has saved me time and again from from unwise purchases ... and helped me advise others as well. But, I am an Engineer so such curiosity comes naturally grin
