I bought a 1st generation luftwaffe dress dagger from lakeside trader on February 9th. They shipped it on the 11th. I downloaded the app Canada post to keep track of it. Or so I thought. I live in Mississippi and it left from Toronto. I was receiving updates as long as it was in Canada. Since then no updates as to where it is now. USPS also has the same last update as Canada post so I guess USPS took over. Has anyone experienced how long it would take to receive this item? I?m getting a little concerned but still trying to be patient. On the 25th it will have been 6weeks. Is this time frame normal. Any replies I?ll be thankful

Hello murman, unfortunately I have no personal experience concerning this certain way of shipping. I would recommend to contact fist Paul from lakesidetrader, he sure has experience concerning the duration of such a shipping.
I only have had once an item shipped a long distance, at these times there was no possibility of tracing. It did last three months. Crooks of the postal service have been paid verifiably expensive air mail but sent it cheap on ground...

Cost a lot of money and took 3 weeks.
Not heavy, a book, and nothing special...?..

From the 11th to today is not 3 days yet.
I have bought items from Canada, never a dagger, and it takes a while to get them.
Items cumming in the country from other countries takes longer than domestic shipping.
I'd give it a few more days before getting worried.

Just to update everyone whose interested, I talked to Paul by phone today and he agreed I should have gotten it by now. He said it?d probably take awhile with all this Coronavirus crap going on. A trace. Bout all I can do is wait some more. 😩. I?ll say though it?s killing/worrying me big time. I?ll let everybody know the outcome

To update everyone. This morning I got an update (the day after Paul put a trace on it) saying it arrived at a Jackson distribution facility. Then later got another update saying it was out for delivery. I?m very happy and even though it took 6 weeks as of tomorrow it was worth it. Came in what you might call a gun case. Nice touch. All?s well that ends well, but it no doubt played on me lol. At least now I know what to expect. I?ll try and save up enough to purchase a SA dagger. I love all those old relics. Anyway I?m glad it?s over lol

The question now could I ask is how to store it. I?ve got a gun safe in a closet, but it isn?t temperature controlled. I keep desiccant in it though. I usually use car wax on the outside of firearms which seems to be better than oil and a lot cleaner. Storing this relic is unknown territory. I?m not really sure about wax. Any thoughts would be appreciated

The wax that most dagger collectors use is called Renaissance Wax or Ren Wax. I've used it for many years with no problems.

[/quote] found the wax. I?ll buy some coat it then put it in a safe. That stuff might be good for outside surfaces of firearms also. Thanks for telling me about it. Would you recommend storing it in the sheath or separately? I?m asking all these questions because when I pass everything I own will be passed down. I?m not exactly a young sprout lol

I keep all my daggers in the scabbards, in a knife case like yours came in, in my gun safe.
Plenty of years later and no problems.
If you plan on looking at your dagger a lot, I would keep it out of the scabbard to avoid wear.
For long time storage, in the scabbard is ok.
Just my way.

Have you also used Pre-Lim Dave? I found it on a site here in the U.K. that sells Renaissance Wax & wondered if it would be good to clean my daggers....what do you think?

I had not heard of Pre-Lim. It is described as:

"A mildly abrasive creamy paste designed for non-scratch cleaning, stain removal and freshening of many surfaces, especially metals and enamels. Also used for ceramics, feathering repairs to china, air-brushed glazed surfaces. PRE-LIM produces a brilliant silky, smooth finish." It seems to be made by the same people

Ren Wax has no abrasives at all, just refined wax

Different products, I think.

I occasionally use Simichrome to rub out surface rust and imperfections, but very gently and carefully.

Renwax on everything.

Hi....thank you for your welcome & replies!...sorry I should have said they are indeed different products but as they are made by the same people I wondered if you had used it. It would seem that maybe you use Pre Lim first then Ren Wax? I have ordered a small 65ml pot of both & may try the Pre Lim on a small area on one of my bayonets first......

Looks like Pre Lim would be ok to use in MODERATION.
It is made from silica chaulk, a mild abrasive.
Sounds just like semi-chrome.
Go easy, follow with wax.
Let us know how it works.

Hi All....I used the Pre-Lim & the Ren Wax on my bayonet collection yesterday & have to say that both pastes worked very well. The Pre-Lim I used very sparingly & without too much pressure & found it to be very good, it lifted some surface staining very well, although I think I would rather leave the "patina" as it is on my daggers!
The Ren Wax may well have cleaned the bayonets to the same standard anyway so I think I will just use Ren Wax on my daggers.....👍
