Hi All, This is my 1st Heer dagger bought about a year ago the colour contrasts in the grip were the main attraction for me. I would really like to identify the crossguard all I can come up with so far with my limited knowledge is it may be by Holler Possibly their type 4 as listed on some identification sites but there are no pics of one. I have seen several very similar crossguards but not an exact match. If possible I would like to know who the maker of this dagger was?
Thanks,Andy. [img:right][/img]

Hi, Thanks for the reply Ryan. I have found this unmarked Heer by Holler on wardaggers.com site http://www.wardaggers.com/D101.htm and it looks pretty much like mine, same two tone grip, it also has no maker mark and mentions the cross graining to the blade to be set at an angle as is mine if you look closely. Says the crossguard is Holler type 2 that was used twice in production by Holler the earlier ones were hand enhanced and the later ones were not enhanced(type 4) as it was 2nd use of type 2 used after the Holler type 3 hence why it is referred to as the type 4, hope that made sense?. One thing I noticed is the scabbard bands are different mine seem to be a zinc alloy and more rounded.
what do you think?
Thanks Andy.

The crossguard eagle is likely traceable to a particular maker. If you can find a reference on these eagles, it will help perhaps identify the maker. However, it was not unknown for makers to buy parts from one another.

Hi, Thanks for your reply Grumpy not sure if anyone noticed the link to the Wardaggers.com page I posted above so here it is again: click on the link-

I am convinced this Dagger by Holler is the same as mine please check it out and give me your thoughts if any about it.
Many thanks, Andy.
Very possibly assembled by Holler. The round punched eye on the E. Pack produced type three guard (for Pack) and matching Pack pommel is a typical Holler configuration. Holler was known to make blades with the grain on the center panel running lengthwise but I can't say I have seen them with the angled grain like this? Scabbard is a generic "B" type with a correct for Holler center flush throat screw.. and Holler did use generic scabbards sometimes. Usually another type of generic in my experience but it's possible. Nice grip! best, Kevin.

Hi,
Many thanks for your opinions and knowledge from which I have learnt more useful information again, I can now at least say that this dagger is more typical of Holler than any other manufacturer as I had thought it may be but obviously the lack of a makers mark makes it harder to determine. Putting this post up though has widened my interest in Heer Daggers and already I want more knowledge and more types of Heers in my collection. I am considering sticking to the main three services Heer, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine as there is obviously a lot of variation in makers and types plus they are much easier on my bank account.
Thanks again, cheers, Andy.
