Neither had I ... I was looking closely at the maker mark trying to figure out if it is a slightly smaller version of the one that I already have, but I missed the grip.

Another topic made useless to with a link to a deleted post.

First I cannot follow (perhaps misunderstanding?) concerning the grip wire. For me it is a common grip wire (dual bigger wire, twisted, and covered with a very thin wire) which has lost the thin wire on the grip´s reverse due to wear.

Second, my understanding is that the selling post are not deleted but collected in a special folder.

I agree with you Wotan on your observation and description of the grip. The link went to the for sale item yesterday but for me it is now a dead link. Perhaps a moderator can retrieve the images from the "special" folder and post them here?

Thanks Wotan but the discussion is not about the wire itself rather here it starts and ends on the grip.
If you look at 99.99% of luft 2's the 2 wires start at the bottom on the sides and end at the top on the sides.
This luft is very rare. Using just a single wire starting at the back. Only seen a few in my life, would have jumped on this in a second.

Then do we have an image of the area in question where the wire starts/finishes?

Thank you very much, I really did misunderstand it. The grip has the "one groove" configuration against the common to be seen "two groove" configuration.
I also learn something new nearly every day!

I guess I am missing the clue here. For example, how many grooves does this luftwaffe dagger have?

dr73, too few to be seen from the grip. Look at the grip/pommel. When two strands of wire are coming out beneath the pommel (oposite) the grip has two grooves, if only one it has one groove.
As already mentioned, these one-groove-grips are very rare.

Here are two Luneschloss daggers, the white grip is a one wire grip and the yellow grip is a two wire grip.

Pictures of the obverse grip and the obverse and reverse pommels and grip top show the two different configurations.

Thanks! Now I get it It's great to learn something new. I checked some of my luft daggers and they all have the normal two wire grip.

I would guess so... probably a time and material savings which was more important as time progressed.

Yea, it's all in these wee details.
I've done extensive study on grips and wires. Some makers had such unique wrap that you need only look at the wire to identify them. C&Jung, Tiger, Alcoso, to name just a few.
Lots to learn there.
Here's an example that many would say has replaced wire, however this is exactly how these were made:

Jeez, Paul, it is hard enough to try to get all the maker mark variations without you enticing me to start on grip and grip wire variations!
