I was in Germany 2 wks ago and came in contact with a 1st luft in nice condition. The unusual part is that the leather on the scabbard and handle was of black Moroccan leather. Maker was Pack.Seemed to be original, as the fit was fine and the leather displayed normal wear. Despite pleas, begging, offers and extolations to the deity of his choice the owner refused to even consider any sale- the old "family treasure" story. Have others seen this variation? Mike

For God's sake Mike, don't you recognize a Luft "funeral" dagger when you see one. grin

Hello DONS, itīs a 1st luft so there are no "funerals" known.
Imho just mistreated leather, perhaps used black shoe polish because a blue one was not available or something else. For sure (for me) not produced in black.
Regards,

Yes Don, I confused it with all the leather on the 2nd Luft. How is Rockport- under water yet? Mike

I dont think it was shoe polish- the leather was factory done - there was no evidence of shoepolish around all the wiring on the handle-Mike

I've seen some distinct looking early 1st lufts by pack so it wouldn't surprise me if one had a black scabbard.
