Here are two early Eickhorn First Model Lufts (double Oval TMs) up for comparison and discussion. Both are of solid nickel construction and have quality plated blades.

The top dagger I determined to be of earlier vintage as it shows attributes consistent with the configuration of the earlier transitional DLV model: It has

1. "S" Clips which attach the chain to the upper scabbard fittings
2. Grip and wire which angles more from right to left rather than left to right (see Wittmann's Luftwaffe book, p.43)
3. Sun wheel Swastikas which are slightly raised/bevelled indicating they were perhaps inlayed rather than of single piece construction
4. single screws securing upper and lower scabbard fittings as opposed to two (perhaps the first attempt at securing the scabbard fittings since the large DLV staples)
5. a slightly longer overall length of 19 inches consistent with transitional DLV.
6. chain links which are thinner and finer.
7. a more detailed TM showing the eye of the squirrel
8. Thicker plating finish that has better withstood wear and time

Its interesting to see the subtle transitional changes and differences in earlier models before the configuration became more standard. Any other contributions, especially by example, would be greatly appreciated.

Early Eickhorn which uses up early DLV parts for pommel and crossguard inlay discs.

Fellas, without doubt those are some "dazzlers..." wink

Exceptional pieces all with great attention to details. A delight to see all these nuances, thanks for the quality visuals.

Best!
