Janos,
That for sure is a keeper. I think the only examples of these came by way of a reference book.

Very nice.

Janos, what's not to like? A Wustof is rare to find on a 1st Luft. On a 2nd...I can't remember if I've seen one lately (last 10 years).

-Congrats- !

Congrats on a fine piece.

Sorry, but you don't suppose, what at the given subject the blade not native, and is borrowed from army dagger?
Posted By: JohnZ Re: RARE 2nd Luft - 04/29/2012 12:50 PM
I just returned from Hungary, where I had the pleasure of spending some time with Janos and where we spent a super evening looking at daggers and more daggers.

You slant grip Heer guys out there would have been fascinated, I know I was. I managed to convince Janos that this Luft2 deserves a spot on the JohnZ wall along with its other TM variation brothers.

To answer the question as to whether this could be an army blade (Wusthof is known as a rare maker of Heers) in Luft2 fittings:

1) There is no more of a premium for a Wusthof Luft2 then there would be for a Wusthof Heer.

2) Heer collectors probably number more than Luft2 collectors so a Heer would sell mpore quickly and probably more expensively than an Luft2.

3) This item was sold to Janos as a Luft2... no special mention of the TM, and I bought it at the same price as I had paid for some of my more scarce items, like Kolping and Fridericus).

4) A lot of these cottage manufacturers purchased their fittings from other manufacturers and, since they alreay had the blade to make Heers, they could just as easily purchase Luft2 fttings from the same manufacturers.

Anyway, here are my pics of this dagger, now hanging on my wall.

A very nice dagger indeed. Must dig some of mine out !! They are so tactile.
Posted By: JohnZ Re: RARE 2nd Luft - 04/29/2012 01:25 PM
Thanks, Spock.

The blade is not great, spotted and water damaged especially near the tip on both sides. But, it is such a rare mark, and the blade around the mark is not bad at all.

I, too, love fondling these things.. my wife thinks that I am besotted by them.

Ronnie:

I have never seen a Luft2 rarity list. The thing is that even within common makers, there are rare TM versions. Who knows and who can decide which is more rare?

Thank's John, maybe someone could start a thread with TM versions for reference and it could be buit up, i know like everything in collecting daggers this would take a long time but i think it would be interesting and a great reference in future, maybe a footing for a new Lufty McSarr list laugh laugh
thanks again, Ronnie

Ronnie:

I started one on Luft2 TM variations a while back here:

Yes, Andrew, this one came to me from Hungary, but it originally came to Hungary from Germany. This is the very same dagger that Janos started the thread with.

Andrew,
that wasn't fair.
You are absolutely wrong. I purchased the dagger in the Karrenbauer Auktionhaus Konstanz, Baden-Wrttemberg, Germany.
It was lot 366 in their 240th auction on 03/03/2012.

I attached a screenshot, you can find every information of the auction.

So, this dagger is originally from Germany. (What a surprise!)

Greetings from Hungary,
Janos
