The Smithsonian really needs someone with a bit more knowledge to write descriptions for some of their collection.

It's identified only as a "dagger with a silver braid portepee hanger". Oh by the way, the damascus blade warrants no mention.

And the maker is referred to as "Solingen". I bet there is more to see on the blade than just the word "Solingen". Too bad the maker mark is not visible in the pictures.

One would think that the Smithsonian would have more talented personnel eh? Is that a government run institution btw? If so, that would explain it.
