I thought I'd share pics of this beautiful black handle 2nd Luft dagger I have. The maker is Klaas and it's a funeral dagger for Hauptmann Heinz Strunning. He was credited with 56 victories in 280 missions, 250 of which were flown at night.

The blade has an etch of his name on obverse and the dates of his birth and death on the reverse

He was shot down over England on Christmas Eve of 1944. You can Google his name to read more.

Congrats on this beauty. Can you tell us a bit of the history of how you acquired and researched this piece?

Nice dagger. Could you elaborate on what you mean by "it's a funeral dagger for Hauptmann Heinz Strunning". Was this presented to the family after his death or something? As far as I knew there was no period documentation about the purpose for black handled 2nd Luft daggers. Jim

Are the dedications etched or engraved? They look etched. Nice piece. Do you have provenance?
