This uniform was just sold through Martin Stiles website Hannah's Reich. This guy owns some really great stuff. I'm sure mister Abenheim knows more of this terrific piece.

a very nice "DF" tunic

Does this same uniform keep appearing and being sold like three different times now on different sites in the past 7 months or was that a different one? It appears to be the same one marked as sold on The Last Reich?

I think it is Hoopers DF tunic where he sold for the LAH coat & tunic.

Why? Is this how come prices are so high? Is this collecting? A tunic like this should be snatched up and hiding in someones collection never to be seen again for many years.When something is marked as sold it gives the browser the impression someone bought it for a collection and got thier dream tunic,then it appears again for sale on another website???

Peter Jenkins has a similar piece, as well, for sale which has all the RZM/SS markings. I do believe this DF piece was the property of one of our colleagues.

With all due respect this is a great looking tunic. There are any number of reasons why items change hands with a degree of frequency. I sold my mint, named and researched Allgemeine tunic to Bill Shea in 1998 for $3000.00 because I wanted a corvette and had only owned it for one year. I only wish that I had it back. I sold most all of my political headgear and tunic collection after one year. My collecting focus changes yearly and so far in the past 10 years I have liquidated two sizeable dagger collections,an RAF/RCAF collection of tunics and flightgear, a Canadian battledress collection, a German headgear collection, a German political uniform collection, an Allgemeine collection and a political visor collection. These were done for a number of reasons but mostly due to a change in collecting interest. There were a number of items that should have gone into the closet and that I wished that I had kept but onward and upwards. A nicer more desireable item always comes along. There are those collectors who buy and sell with frequency for reasons of economic gravity or changing taste. I do think there are certain collectors who commit a large % of their reserves to a single, costly purchase, and then sell same when they have to fix their house, raise their children, &c. Through such dynamics do certain excellent pieces re-emerge. In contrast, there are those who buy and hold. There is far more fluctuation in all of this than I might have imagined. It is true that the wanting is often more exciting than the ownership. I actually prefer the latter, myself. One my of my colleagues here gets bored with pieces quickly, and then sells them for the joy of it. Jedem das seine. Viel Sammlerglueck. In response to my Dutch friend, I do not know this particular tunic, in fact, for an actual examination. I belive it was that of a treasured UK colleague however, as I wrote above.

Yes this tunic once belonged in my collection and was part traded for the LHA ensemble,,,Unfortunately funds,space etc will not allow me to have many more of the nice black uniforms out there.There is indeed a limit to what ones collecting can take.I really do feel that you can and I have experianced this myself of going over the top with having much of this black [ a lucky and fortunate man indeed ].
I do diplay them and don't covert them in a wardrobe or bank in hopes of the price going up in value emensely,In fact I have never made any kind of profit from these whatsoever,only to put back into some other items.I also feel that we have very nearly reached the point were these wollens can no longer be worth very much more in value to the general collector.
I think its also good whether collector to collector or dealer to dealer that these items get passed around so that many people will have their chance to say "this belonged to me once"
Donald you lament on your wonderful collection of black that you once owned [ and still own ] through the years but you have given other collectors a great chance to grab these too by passing them over,,,Colleage Bob Coleman has stated in the past that he would be leaving his great and important collection to a noted museum for all us despardes to see for the future.Now that WOULD be worth flying over to view for sure!
Some black hats I once owned are being offered to me again on this mad roundabout but Im sure thats the nature of this silly hobby and I guess one of the reasons why we do it? There are tremendous items coming out of France at the moment and stay tuned to what will surely be presented in the future!!!,,,,,,,,,,Stephen

I see nothing wrong with selling some of your items from time to time. In fact, if it wasn't like that, I would never have had a collection of 3rd Reich items. I started collecting only for some years ago and 90% of my collection comes from collections from the US. As we all know it is not easy to get good original uniforms within Europe as the best are still in the US colections. Apart from some UK dealers/collectors, like Martin Stiles and Peter Jenkins, and ofcourse our German Friend Robert Hassler, I wouldn't dare to buy uniforms from European dealers who sell mostly crap. Thanks to collectors, like mister Abenheim and Hooper, it is still fun collecting uniforms as they give others the opportunity to own something original. Frederico.

Nice to pass things around yes...but I saw one tunic pass from one dealer to another with a price increase of $1000 overnight??

I have to agree with John. If I was able to afford that beautiful DF tunic, it would not see the light of day for many many years. It would be proudly displayed in my Bunker as eye candy for those of us who appreciate such things.

It is a beautiful representation of an early Allgemeine-SS tunic from a regiment that went on to distinguish itself and its members in battle. It seems that its historical importance is lost (or perhaps ignored?) when it changes hands so frequently in so short a timeframe.

This tunic is a dream tunic for me! For sure this dream will never come alive because I cant afford the prices.

So I have to drewl over photos instead. Congrats to the new owner of this splendid piece!
