Hi.

I have a German Cross in Silver that I am considering selling, but before I do I would very much like to know who the original recipient was.

Can anyone please help in my quest? The inscription reads FP 4114 E.K.

Any help would be greatly received.

Thanks.

Mike

Here's a close up of the inscrition. The back is quite worn so the cupal is showing through the silvering.

Mike, you may want to post this question to the German Translation Forum.

At best you may have a unit designation and owners initials.

Thanks Joe, I'll give it a go.

Hello-

The piece does not look like an original zimmerman or deschler, which it appears it is an attempt at. Do you have better photos? Again, from the photo provided, this does not appear to be a wartime piece.

Thanks. Mike.

Back. Three of the four pins have broken, and is still held together by the one pin.

Your reverse resembles the one in this link. The obverse in the link is out of focus and little help.

I agree with above. This shows the characteristics of a S&L DKiS. Many, myself included, doubt the wartime production of the DKiS by S&L. Nonetheless, there are many who consider the S&L to be a perfectly legtimate wartime maker of the DKiG and DKiS. Thanks for the additional photos. This does appear to be a S&L. Whether these are wartime or not is a completely separate discussion.

Thank you to everyone who has replied so far. As I have no idea about the DKiS this is much appreciated.

However, looking at the pics on the other link, I would say silver 'ring' is of a higher quality finish, the detailing is a lot more crisp and clear, far better than every copy I have ever seen. I have an original DKiG cloth version and the quality of the rings are the same.

Thanks.

Mike, thank you for showing your award, glad we could be of help.

John, thank you for contributing your knowledge on the German Cross. Definitely not a strong suite of mine. I own a cloth version and have not felt the urge to add a metal version to my collection.

Joe-

You seem to have a good eye for the metal ones. There are very good fakes of all the makers out there, but fortunately the fakers have focused on a few types within each manufacturer. Controversial pieces remain, such as the S&L DKiG and the light juncker.
