YO J.R.Scott,,your still around here huh!! Thats great!

What do you think [if you have it] of Jo Rivets massive book on the subject of the party pins?
OR anyone else for that matter. What is your review of the book if you have it.... ,Thanks , G.

J.R.,,, Oh man,,so sorry to hear that. Well It seems your on the mend and getting back to the scene. Wish you the best on your recovery!

Now the book. Massive,,over 500 pages. He is a digi microscope guy. He's called out many a fake badge from some very experienced / long time collectors.. Its like $60 I think but worth every penny!!

J.R. and members.. This thing is over a inch thick!,,big, beautiful glossy color photos,,clear , in focus. With explanations on how he is determining authenticity and how you can do it your self.

Some think its very harsh,,personally I like it. There is a lot of ******** out there and just because a 'famous' collector owns /selling it doesn't mean it's good.

Best for the PP but can be applied to many other pieces, and certainly anything that has enamels in it.. A great read and addition to a collecting library,,,commercial over grin

J.R.,,again, a speedy recovery and good health to you and yours!

Hello,
Gaspare, the cheapest I have seen Rivett's book going for is 150.00.
Not being a collector of badges I looked into buying the book just to have as reference but for that price I just couldn't justify buying it for myself. From what I have heard though you are correct in that the book is quite informative & groundbreaking even though the author can be quite abrasive in his dealings with other collectors. A shame because I think he hurts his own cause with the way he responds to others. If you know of anywhere that I can purchase the book for somewhere in the price range you mention I'd be interested in acquiring it.
thanks

Bill,, WOW! didn't know the real cost.. He sent me a 'wacked' one [printed with cover on backwards!] to review when it had first come out..

Yeah, Jo is a 'unique' type individual. He calls a spade a spade even if its to one of the old guard of 'experts'. A piece isn't authentic because an old expert says he bought it from a vet! These days science [if it applies] wins above all!

I got to say if your in to these type pieces , even anything with enamel [also shows construction] this is the one book to have.. $150 isn't too bad considering what some of these pieces costs. IF it saves you even one time it'll pay for itself.. It really is a must if your still collecting/dealing.. You might get lucky on the 'show' market like finding a used one at the MAX etc.

Hello Gaspare,
Yes, when I saw the price at around 60 dollars I did another search to see if one was available in that price range and was surprised myself at what it was going for. I agree that he does call a spade a spade & that he has proven many old time "expert" collectors wrong on many of their items but nonetheless I do find his attitude extremely off putting, even if he is correct on many items. To me being courteous doesn't cost anything & in the long run goes a long way. There is a show down here in NC in a couple of weeks and if I could pick up a used one for a good price I definitely would, even though and I'll admit it I find his attitude fairly sickening. thanks for your reply.
all the best
Bill
