Hello,
I believe that these are supposed to be Swedish tinnies. I have a few of these, one just like the one you show and while originals do exist, I believe both yours and mine are considered fakes. I don't remember exactly why these are considered bogus but if memory serves me correct it has to do with the attachment pin (plate),on the reverse. My memory's not what it used to be so I hope others add whatever info they may have.

Hello Duzig,

Thanks for your feedback. Is it possible that you could post photos of your pin?

Thanks,
Ed

I found this stick pin on Snyder’s Treasures Militaria website (website attached below).
It’s listed under “Rare and Unusual stick Pins”

http://snyderstreasures.com/pages/stickpins.htm#rare

The photos on his website look exactly like the stick pin I have posted here.
Item BLP-0162
German World War Two Foreign Volunteers SS NSDAP - OD Viking Ship w/ Swastika Membership Stick Pin. It features this Viking Ship with a Swastika on the sail with NORRTALJE & 1935 below it.
(The item was sold so I don’t what the selling price was.)

Duzig, I'm not sure I agree with you that the stick pin I have posted is not an authentic Third Reich Period pin. I looks very good to me in hand.

It's for the 2nd annual meeting (Landsting) of the Swedish 'National Socialistiska Arbetare Partiet'(NSAP) held in Norrtalje Sweden in 1935. Similar pins are known for the meetings held in other Swedish cities.

Thanks Vern. That's very helpful and informative. Does it look like an authentic 3rd Reich pin to you from the photos? Also, are they uncommon? The only other one I've seen is the photo of the one on Snyders Treasure's website.

Hello,
Ed, As I mentioned I don't remember exactly what the reason about these being bogus was. I will see if I saved the thread about them. It may have been on another forum too so I will do a search if I can. Regarding Snyder's site, I don't think he is considered a reliable dealer by many people so many might disregard what he has and says is good.
In any case for sure I might be wrong but yours looks like the one I have and was told it was repro. I will see if I can post a picture of mine tomorrow. Also will see if I can find the thread about these pins.

I would be surprised if it was bogus, besides its obvious aged, period look it wouldn't seem to make much sense to copy an item that might be expected to sell for $25.
Snyder can be a decent resource for research, probably about the only thing he is good for. He unquestionably has some good items mixed in with the Eva undies, but I wouldn't buy anything from the guy just out of principal.

Good morning Duzig and Skynyrd. Skynyrd, I thought the same as you about this pin. But after further research based on information that Duzig sent me I believe the pin is a fake. The plate on the reverse that the pin is soldered to is a dead giveaway per Duzig's earlier post.

I agree with you about Snyder's.

Best Regards,
Ed

Well, having not seen Duzig's earlier post I would have no way of judging what it contains

Hello,
Here are the links that I sent to Ed.
I didn't originally put them in wasn't sure if links from other forums where allowed.

Everyone of course has to judge for themselves whether info is good or not.

I am IP banned from WAF so I guess I'll just go on wondering ...

Hi Doug,
If you go to the wesite that derjager posted above and scroll down you'll see an example of the pin.
There is also another Swedish pin below it.
The two things that identify my pin are:

1. The pin is soldered to a round base and the base attached to the back of the tinnie. The pin on an original is soldered directly to the back of the tinnie (no round base.
(You can see this in the example on the above site. The pin directly below it although a different style pin better illustrates the pin directly soldered to the back.

2. The original is maker marked. Mine isn't maker marked.

I will say it is an excellent repro. When I hold it in hand it really does look original...a real fooler.

Regards,
Ed

Well, if its a fact that the stickpin setup is known not to be period, then thats that.
We all know you can't go by authentic looking patina in determining authenticity.
