Hello all,
Lets see some of those cased badges and medals out there. Here is a cased EK2 that I used to have, if I remember right it was marked on the ring #20.
Fritziii
I will have to dig something out and see if the camera still works.
--dj--Joe
Here's one of mine.
Good looking set Erich, any maker on the box?
--dj--Joe
Thanks, Yes it's RZM marked on the bottom of the box. Will get it out and post the RZM #.
EKI case.
--dj--Joe
EKI obverse.
--dj--Joe
EKI reverse.
Marked 100 underside of pin.
--dj--Joe
Here are a couple of mine, KO marked WWI,and also 100 marked WWII. Will try to resize some photos of other cased awards I have soon. Regards, Duane
Description: CASED EKI
Duane, Joe,
Nice looking cross'! and Erich, that is one nice set for the long service medal. I have a couple others I'll post along with some from my friends collection soon.

Dug a few old snaps out.

How about a couple of blood orders. One of these cases is totally trashed, but funnily I love it just as much as the better ones I have.
Description: Bo
Good looking KO EKI.
Cased Blood Orders, very nice!
Cased Social Welfare Awards, Very nice!
I also remember that interesting cased mining ind. stickpin, Don.
Thanks all for showing such outstanding items. I had the camera out yesterday however a nonfunctional object at the rear of the camera
caused poorly produced pictures. I will attempt again at a later date.
--dj--Joe
An older scan of a nonportable swimming award.
--dj--Joe
Jon, You show off! Love those BO's!!
Erich, I really struggle to get the size right on this forum ,too big, then too small. Next weekend I'll have aplay about and see if I can get some nice pics for this thread.
My pride and my joy...
Description: Cased Spange To The Iron Cross 1st Class
Here is an eagle order 4th class.

Cased life saving medal.
Ibrahim, Fritziii, nice cased items. A cased life saving medal, that's something to see!
--dj--Joe
Here is another cased example of an EK 2, This is from a friends collection.
Very nice Gentlemen! Here are a few more of mine in some mixed groupings. Best regards, Duane
Description: c1
I know the Memel's are controversial.
Description: c2
And finally some service medals. Regards, Duane
Description: c3
Duane, do you mean the Memel medal itself is controversial or the fact that it resides in a maroon case?
--dj--Joe
I was referring to the controversy over different variations of the medal itself. It is in a maroon case as I found it while stationed in FRG in the early 80's. I believe the general consensus is they were issued in red, although I have seen others in maroon cases. I have no certainty that the case it came in is original to the medal. Please share your thoughts on the medal variants and cases Joe. Best regards, Duane
Duane, I will attempt to scan my example. Can you post a close up of yours obverse and reverse? Might be a good idea to start a separate topic. There might be an old topic, I will have a look/see.
There was, it was yours.
http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/800097573/...913054867#7913054867I will dig mine out.
--dj--Joe
It may take awhile to get a decent scan from me.
I do remember some of the discussions. But do not recall any consensus.
Something to do with the m's vs. a some what more stylized (curved)
m. Also the slant of the G.
Also the number and or shape, of acorns at the base of the reverse.
I am resonably secure with my example.
Mine came sans case. As to what they were issued in, again, who now knows?
Link to discussion.

Here's a selection of what I consider to be my best EK1's
Rich
, all different makers?
--dj--Joe
Yes, all different including S&L, W&L, L/19, '20', '26', '15', and 'unknown'.
The unknown is especially nice as it has a beautiful 'egg-shell' finish and a non-magnetic core.
Rich
Here's a closer pic of the S&L. I see collectors raving about the 'Russian Hoard' which has driven their prices in to orbit but you can find EK1's of this quality from other makers and I never pay more than normal prices.
...the W&L.
This reminds me...I need to dust off those cores.
Rich
Richard, thank you for the additional pictures. I appreciate examples with the worn, been there done that look but there is something special about those that retain the frosting!
--dj--Joe
Joe
I like them worn too but it is nice to have a few examples of how they would have looked on the day they were presented.
I have more cased awards but as you can see I'm not too organised when it comes to displaying.
Rich
Goodness Richard, that is quite a stack of awards. I will of course pester you to share some as your time permits.
Regards, --dj--Joe
Joe
You only have to ask and I'll accommodate as best I can.
Rich
Let us see if we can keep this thread going. I will check through my items.
--dj--Joe
Here are a couple pics of my knights cross', I've posted them before but I took better pics of them in there cases. Both are marked 900 and 1.
Fritziii
Here is the second one, there is some question on whether this is a gold cross or a silver, it has a very gold look to it compared to the other. I'll try taking more pics of them side by side and post later. Enjoy.
Fritziii
IMHO, this is a very unique specimen. A well reapected Author/Collector, from who, I believe is a member of this forum, the following quotes were received from back in 1997:
"I was very interested to see the photos and slides. I can't say much about them other than that I haven't seen similar ones and the look to be of very good quality."
"I wonder if the pilot/observer badge with brilliants might be some sort of prototype? I know for a fact that the Bavarian Army Museum in Ingolstadt has a set of Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds for the Knight's Cross which are supposedly the first prototype priduced and which are cast from standard dies with jems set in drilled holes, in the same manner as the sapphires are set in your badge. Perhaps your badge is, therefore, an early variant, before the badge was entirely hand made and covered in diamonds?"
"There is another alternative as well. You know how the Navy produced silver war badges with diamonds only on the swastika (e.g. Ausillary Cruiser, High Seas Fleet, E-Boat etc. for presentation to Naval personnel in these branches of the Navy who won the knight's Cross with Oakleaves? These diamond studded war badges are well documented as is the criteria for their award. It strikes me that the badge in your possession is very similar indeed in manufacture to these other diamond studded warbadges. Perhaps this is a prototype of a badge which was intended for presentation to all pilots who won the Knight's Cross with Oakleaves?? Actually, on reflection, I think that that is a more plausible explanation that it being an early version of the standard pilot/observer with diamonds."
"All this is just guesswork, however."
My humble contribution.

Inerds.
Hello everyone, I created another topic about the luft pilot observer badge and moved a couple posts from this topic to the new for further discussion. I want to leave Richards badge here in this topic and will try to create a link in the other. Lets keep both topics going as for I believe they are both good ones.
Tim, those are some pretty nice looking SS medals. Thanks!
Richard, can you get us some more pics of the luft badge and post them here in this topic and the other, it looks nice.

OBVERSE PHOTOS OF SPECIMEN -- THESE WERE TAKEN BACK IN 1997 WITH COLOR FILM, NOT DIGITAL. WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK I SHALL REPEAT THE REVERSE PRESENTATION USING MY DIGITAL CAMERA.
THIS DIGITAL OBVERSE PHOTO CLOSE-UP MORE CLOSELY REPRESENTS THE ACTUAL FINISH OF THIS SPECIMEN.
Here is an unmarked EK1 in the case, anyone know what maker this could be?
Fritziii
Here is the reverse
OK guys lets see some more cased medals and badges. This is a pretty good thread going here.
Fritziii
Fritziii, can you show a side view of the hinge and pin?
--dj--Joe
Joe,
Here are a couple pics.

Fritziii, would you wish to open this EKI example up for discussion?
If so you may wish to pull it from here and start a new topic on it.
In my opinion it is most likely an S&L manufactured piece.
--dj--Joe
Joe, I think I will, I have a couple other topics I want to get up for discussion also.
Fritziii
Hello all,
Here is a picture of my cased Prussian fire service medal. I love to see cased items particularly civil or political ones but all are great to see! Thanks
Duzig
Here is a cased Polizei Meisterschaft non-portable award for the civil enthusiasts among us. This one is actually Austrian and was made just before the Anschluss.
Appreciate seeing both of these awards.
Both appear to be in excellent condition.
--dj--Joe
Hello again all,
Orpo nice item! What is the size of that police plaque if I may ask? And again Joe thanks for the comment. Attached is a picture of my Honor plaque for horse breeding and a pic of my cased Blockade Runner badge. I am not really a collector of war badges, I believe the blocade runner badge to be original but as I do not really collect those items much any input regarding it is appreciated. Again thanks and nice to see all this stuff!
Bill
Duzig,
Thank you for the kudos on the Polizei Meisterschaft award. The award is 5cm X 6cm and was struck at the Austrian Mint in Vienna. The case still reatains the paper label from the mint.
Great additions all! I have got to get out more and find some of these items.
Bill, every time I see your horse breeding award I am mesmerized! Rich, I have always liked the red cross award too, if memory serves you have the miniature also?
Regards all! --dj--Joe
Hello again,
Rich, sharp looking item. Love to see non portable items from whatever period, all beautiful. Orpo thanks for the info on your award and Joe, again thanks for the comment. Yes the horse award was one of those items you see at a show and immediately know you want to acquire. Thanks to all, and as I said regarding the Blockade runner badge...I believe it to be good but welcome any definate confirmation on it as I don't really collect those items.
Bill
Here's a Dutch NSB Commemorative medallion, instituted in the autumn of 1940 by Anton Mussert for all those who had been interned in May 1940 by the Dutch authorities for political activities.
Cheers
Don
Nice one Don. I would imagine not to many of those floating about out there!
--dj--Joe
I don't want to see this thread die.
Neither do I !
Here's my collection of badges.
Ron, Patrice, thank you both!
--dj--Joe
Thanks for bringing this back up, I missed it the first time around. Like Rich, most of mine are not organized. I have showed several individually before but will try and post some more photos when time permits. Here's some for now.

Thanks for sharing!

Would seriously like to see this thread continue!
--dj--Joe
Here's a few I can add to this great thread, most of them are hunting related.

this one is shooting related
This one isn't hunting though
That first pair with the mini are a choice set Gary. Nice......
Cheers
Don
Gary, hunting related, most welcome!
All items, most welcome.
--dj--Joe
Hello again all,
Baz, really beautiful stuff! Particularly like the cased 35 and 36 jaeger ones with mini! Here are two items I have, not 3rd Reich but I hope no one minds me posting them. First is a cased US air medal and second is cased US distinguished flying cross. I agree with Joe I'd like to see this thread continue!
Duzig(Bill)
And here's the distinguished flying cross.
Duzig(Bill)
As some of you are aware, I have more than a passing interest in the Landesschießen competitions of the Standschützenverbandes Tirol-Vorarlberg held annually in Innsbruck between 1938 - 1944.
I didn't realise that I hadn't posted this set of cased badges awarded to Josef Flotzinger of München for the years 1941 - '44. All the badges wre originally gold, but as they are made of zinc......
Cheers
Don
And today, this dropped through my letterbox. A huge, heavy table medal award. Also zinc & as you can see a few traces of the gold remaining.
Cheers
Don
Something that just arrived today.
Reichsbund der österrich Tierfreunde
Gary
A Bronze award
Für Verdienste
Gary, nice piece! I admire the shape of the award. No guessing there if it belongs in the case or not.
I am only fluent enough to make out that it is an association of animal friends, but even though I read a translated link, what do they do? Animal protection? Propagation? I see they are currently active. When did the organization orginate?

JUST GOT FROM A LONG TIME COLLECTOR.

And my Blood order.
Here is my favorite cased award
DKIG, a heavy "20" and a six rivet "21"
This a great thread and we should keep adding to it. Anyone else?
I'll see what I can dig out and test a new camera. Wish me luck.
This may take some time so please post away if you should have any cased items to share.
--dj--Joe
My collection of packaged and cased medals. The back row are KVKs (3) and EKI (16). The rarest of them is the EKI envelope on the bottom right corner.
Z06Berlin, quite a line up.
Could you pick out a couple and shoot some close ups?
--dj--Joe
The new camera and I are nonfunctional together so I used the old low pixel camera.
Gau Bayer. Ostmark, 1936 cased nonportable award.

A few items part of a larger group of souvenirs acquired from a WWII US Army veteran several months ago.

Please add to it.
--dj--Joe
Pristine. Nice frosting. Kind of like opening a time capsule.
--dj--Joe
Does anyone have other items to share?
Here is a 1935 Sangerbund nonportable cased table medal.
--dj--Joe
Very impressive cased medals everyone.
Joe,
11th Singerfest/ Sangerbundesfest held in Karlsruhe 1935, Awesome looking medal.
That is one sweet table medal Joe. Love it!!!
Nice to re visit this old thread again.
Mikee, Don. Thank you.
--dj--Joe
Cased Luftwaffe Honor roll Clasp.
The case itself is worse for wear. No reason to show it. Pristine examples can be seen online.
--dj--Joe
Now that's a Dandy Joe! I was never in a position to pick up any of the Honour Roll Clasps..... Very nice.
Don
Thanks Don.
It was an indirect Vet. purchase. (For what that's worth).
