Again, WARNING, some strong pics!

This is some pics from the end of the war.

Far to many did see that the only way out was death! From the
NSDAP leaders and into their staff/families, more then many took their lives

Bleak times and I can't say it wasn't understandable with all things considered.
Must of been like living in a horrific nightmare especially to those who were innocent such as many women and children.

Wikpedia quotes:
"The list includes 8 out of 41 NSDAP regional leaders who held office between 1926 and 1945, 7 out of 47 higher SS and police leaders, 53 out of 554 Army generals, 14 out of 98 Luftwaffe generals, 11 out of 53 admirals in the Kriegsmarine, and an unknown number of junior officials"

Interesting what branch had the highest percentage.

The last option...

There was/is a town in Meck-Pomm, Demmin, with a population at around 15-16 000 inhabitants (today around 10000 inhabitants).

Instead of surrendering to the Red Army, over 1000 people took their own life?s, including families with kids etc (this wave of suicides took place over a period of 72 hours).

If you compare this to the city of Berlin, with it?s 7000 suicides, the town of Demmin suffered a disaster with regards to all those children and none party members.

One can say that one of the reasons for this ?collective? suicide, was do to the geographical placement of the town.

Another reason is that they were cut off, the bridges around had been blown up, so they couldn?t escape. The reputation of the Russian army wasn?t helping.

Please write some feedback and we can continue this thread.

Kind regards

Correction:

2 of the photos are relating to Deputy Mayor of Leipzig, Dr. Ernst Lisso and his family. Not Demmin as posted earlier!

VonLind-
Have you read 'Suicide in Nazi Germany' by Christian Goeschel? If so how does the book rate?
Excerpts that I've read on-line are super interesting and eye opening.

Don't know if you have seen the movie 'Fury' ..

It reminds me of scene when the experienced tank commander [Brad Pitt] shows the younger man what happened in a room of a building of a town they just took over..

All the HJ kids surrender and in the party leaders room is almost this exact scene of them,,, all had gotten themselves drunk and then commited suicide by either poison or gunshot to head....

That is the danger of going all in with regards to, in this case, ideology...when your world collapses, the despair sets in..it is a scene we see repeated in different eras, up to and including this day.
