Found this Press Photo at the Max Show this year. Wouldn't it have been fun to have been there when this was going on. Caption reads "Removing the Hardware: Hermann Goering, once Luftwaffe chief and No. 2 Nazi, removes his medals that were once his prized possessions. This dignity chaser came shortly after his capture by the United States 7th Army. The scene was at the Detention Camp at Augsburg."

Nice pic, seen it before. Notice no breast adler on tunic. I believe that he surrendered his American Smith and Wesson sidearm to his US captors at the time of his surrender. Peculiar that he chose to wear a non German sidearm on this auspicious occasion.... cheers, Ryan
