Could you guys please help me out, I can make out a few words but cannot fathom out the remainder, The two inscriptions are on either side of the blade of a Saufaenger. I would assume from the style that it would be from 1850-1900, tough to nail it any better than that.
Thanks
Gary
Here she is in her full glory
The inscription is in dialect. I will try my best to translate it in regard of its meaning.
Transl:
The new steep track is cleaned
it has been quite useful during hunting.
Dont pay too much attention to the trees
if they grow again into the steep track.
Three chamois have been hunt
without the steep track this would have been impossible.
So the old hunter has laughed
and quickly has brought the knife with him.
Additionally I send you a PM, hope it works,
regards,
Wotan, Only trying to help. What do you think?
..The new trail is cleaned/(cleared).
..For the hunt it's very useful.
..Don't mess around with the trees.
..Their going to grow back anyway.
..Three Mountain Goats fell on the first day.
..Without the trail they would have tricked/ (escaped)us.
..The old hunter laughed,
..and quickly brought the knife.
Mikee, thank you, nice variation.
Gary, DID you get the PM? I have to ask as due to Dave PM currently does not always work ok.
Regards,
Wotan
Got your PM, have replied, thank you both for your great efforts to decipher this, I would never have been able to decipher it's meaning, I was having trouble just trying to translate the words. The inscription looks very clear, a little trick I have found is to rub some cleaning paste into it and before you polish it off the inscription is much clearer.
Just so I'm clear, when you say dialect do you mean it's from a small rural area or a dialect that the hunters used?.
Gary
Gary, could not recieve your response. Now PM seems to quit my direction. Would you, please be so kind and mail it to
[email protected] ?
Concerning your question: It sounds like rural / mountain region / former times dialect.
Thank you in advance, regards,
Wotan
